Hi all. I picked up a Honda CA160. Local Honda shop says CA160 take a 12 volt
battery, all my lights are 6 volt. Can some one help. Vin on frame is CA160-
1011694. I'm geting ready to tear my hair out. Need year, and battery size.
Thanks all.
Paul.

Service Honda also says you need a 12 volt battery.

Just a wild guess here but I would image the battery you need is a
6N6-3B. I bought one last year for my 1974 Honda XL350 at my local Farm
& Fleet for $13.

Heh. I don't think he's ready for the internal combustion engine,
really.

I'll have a look at that site, then.

<Googles>

Coo, rather fine. I like that parts look-up facility, and it's even
Mac OSX compatible. Bravo!. I've always thought Dave Silver's site
could use something similar. DS is great if you know exactly what you
want, but not so good if you don't actually know what part is needed,
like when there's a bracket with two empty mounting holes and you're
wondering: "Now what used to live there?"

Then Service Honda is wrong as well. It's 6v.

What *is* it with bike shops in the US? Are they all as universally
useless as they appear to be, judging by this forum?

And another thing - Googling for Honda CA160 6 volt threw up a raft of
instant hits as to battery type. The OP can perform the same valuable
exercise.

No, Service Honda isn't wrong- SC Tom is wrong.

Service Honda says the CA160 takes a 31500-201-000 which is
definitely a 6V battery. All you have to do is look at the
illustration to see it's a 3 cell battery. A further clue
is that all the bulbs listed for the CA160 are 6V.

No. Service Honda is the closest thing to Dave Silver on this
side of the pond. My experience of local dealerships is that
you are well advised to look up part numbers on the web before
visiting, and print out the parts listings, with prices, from
Service Honda's online microfiche. Saves a lot of bullshit.

Come on, tell us everything you dis-like about the US. I suspect they turned
you down for a green card too?

What difference does that make? Same battery in all models, and we've
already identified which one.
