My 1989 Route66 has suddenly developed an intermittent headlight
problem. Sometimes the headlight comes on with the key, but goes off
when the engine is started. Other times, all is fine until you get
where you're going, and shut down. Naturally, whenever I bring it
inside to look at it, everything is fine and all works as normal.
Running lights are working perfectly, as are the turn signals and
tail/brake lights.

I'd hate to rip open the headlight bucket again w/o having a clue what
I'm looking for. Anyone have a similar problem or have some
troubleshooting suggestions?

many thanks,
bc

Found it, I hope, right after putting it up on the jack, and before
taking the bucket apart. The Start button wasn't returning all the way.
A light tug, and all is well. I'll have to lube it with something. WD40?

I had assumed it was a bad ground, and was planning on doing just as you
say, but I got lucky.

XV250 starter - Hi all, I've got a `93 XV250 (Virago) with (I'm pretty sure) a bung starter motor (hooking it up to a battery (in a vice :)) produces nothing but a nice spark, while the solenoid seems fine). I suspect that I'll have a bit of a job finding a refurb one....

XV250 Virago Regulator - Can anyone tell me where the voltage rectifier/regulator mounts to a 1996 XV250 Virago. I've just replaced a burnt out harness so the whole bike was in bits when I bought it and a complete rebuild is ongoing.. I've got the manual but it isn't that..

XV250 Valve Adjustment Marks - Which marks on the flywheel do I use to adjust the valves for which cylinder?

VStar 1100 - Dim Headlight - anyone else notice that the VStar's headlight *seems* to be dimmer than most other bikes? Aren't they almost all 55/60 from the factory?? anyone upgraded to a brighter bulb? (without burning up anything!)

YG1 Shifting Problem - I recently began having problems when I downshift from 4 th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd. Seems that when I downshift, when I lift up, it is very hard. Sometimes I end up in false neutral and simetimes there is some gear noise. Upshifting works fine, and I..
