I need to take the wheels off my bike to put new rubber on. The
rear wheel is a large axle nut that I'll need to buy a new wrench
to remove. My calipers show it as 1.055" which converts over to
26.8mm or 1 1/16" (approx). What the hell wrench would you guys
buy for this?
The other part of this is that the left side of that axle is just
CIRCULAR. No flats for another wrench. Is this thing somehow
fixed in place by some unseen notch engagement under that head?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Relax. Unscrew the nut and see what happens? Is this that Ponch bike or a
real dirt bike?

I use a BFCW (Big Friggin' Crescent Wrench) for the job ... even though they
are not precision tools, you have to work pretty hard at rounding off nuts
of this size.
<snip> The other part of this is that the left side of that axle is just

Does it have a hole through it where you can insert a long shaft #2 phillips
screwdriver through it to hold it against rotation?

You need a metric cresent wrench.
Wait - make that a left handed metric cresent wrench.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: wrench size question |

A 27mm and a 1 1/16. Return the one you don't need.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: wrench size question |

1 1/16 wrench... makes no sense, but then again, my old Reliant
had a 15mm and a 9/16 bolt in the same adjustment track on the
alternator. Good suggestion. Thanks.

27mm 6-sided socket.

Hmmm... Thinking back to my KZ days... No hole to stick a screwdriver
into to use like a lever?
Just loosen it, ya wuss.
BikeBandit.com's parts diagrams don't show anything out of the ordinary...
Give 'er.

Being lazy as hell, I'm going with a wrench so I don't have to
remove the exhaust. SHIT... I still have to take the axle out
though!!! How DARE you bring reality into my Camelot!
Thanks:) Socket it is...

In the past I have normally used a big adjustable wrench. I bought a CHEAP
set of metric 1/2" drive sockets that go from 13mm to 34mm. It cost only
$19.99 at a "Shoppers" store. Cummins has something similar. A true mechanic
would not buy them, but the shade tree mechanic might.
If all else fails, a pipe wrench works on most bolts.
David.
(another solution would be to just buy one of my bikes that have good rubber
on them already).

I looked at the Kawasaki parts diagram at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.buykawasaki.com." target="_blank">www.buykawasaki.com.</a> Assuming
your bike is a 1999 Police 1000, they list that as a 18mm castle nut.
I'm probably not being much help here.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: wrench size question |

I'd buy pipe wrench & find the electric motor
if you don't want those pesky teeth marks in the
nut you can place a small piece of rubber like
a hunk of floor mat from a 72 crappy blue nova
on the nut before you remove it.
I have a sae1-1/6 & metric to larger than that but
at that size a little slop shouldn't matter too much.
(it's not like you're torque-ing on London bridge bolts)

carriage bolt? or maybe serrated underside of the head that mirrors
the groves in the swingarm. like the camera tripod knurled joints?
who knows, you may have a quick change NASCAR rear on the kaw.
