Best/worst 2-stroke oil (mechanics' input?)

I used Golden Spectro, for many years. I've used Yamalube for the
past 5 or so. My internals (piston crown, power valves, head) are now
much cleaner. I used to be able to get Golden Spectral in big
containers and that was good, I never see Yamalube sold that way. Now
I get it by the case via ebay.

The castor based oils (the ones that smell so cool) are the dirtiest
burning and should be avoided. They lubricate the best but aren't
worth the gumming up of power valves. There are plenty of good oils
that burn nice and clean. I'd use Honda HP2 or the Yamalube 2R if I
were to ride a two stroke.

I've used Redline since I started riding dirtbikes. It kicks ass in my book.

Is that why the bottle no longer says "MX 2T" on it. What is available
now, says "synthetic" and burns clean. I miss the dye, though.

Welcome to The Fantastic Two Stroke World!!!

I like Shell Advance VSX. Great oil, burns clean: doesn't produce
spooge and very little smoke is produced. Smells good too. It is
synthetic and almost colorless. I am not sure if available in US.
Shell is an european company.

I lost the spacer thingy that is used to adjust chain slack on my RM
(it is a 94 125cc). The stuff is not available in any shop I looked. I
could not find a salvage yard that has the part. Maybe I should look
for a machine shop to make it for me? Would it be too horrible if I
used a big nut?

+1 on the yamalube, at 40:1 it used to turn premix kind of purple,
good visual confirmation that it IS premix. DK

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Yamalube a "Semi-synthetic"? The
bottle I bought said that - or is there more than one kind?

You are correct. I still use synthetic 2 stroke oils at this point.

I use the Honda HP2 synthetic. Tastes great, less filling.

picked up my trials bike, I needed to use synthetic at 80:1. I
started using Mobil 1 MX2T until they stopped selling it. I switched

all three oils resulted in similar results with the synthetics leaving
less carbon deposites on the piston crown and most importly, the power
valve parts.

MX2T is now Mobil 1 Racing 2T. It now comes in 1 qt. bottles and has red
dye. I get it at AutoZone.

That's what I've been mostly using since I ran out of Champion WP2.
It burns very clean, but I miss the dye turning the fuel a dark red
color, as the WP2 did.
