So I started on "Junior", my NX250, then I took a few rides on the
R1100RS, but I was a little unsure of how it would feel to get on the R1
again, being that the old wrist isn't exactly 100% yet...and the riding
position isn't exactly the most ergo-matic for an aging cripple.

But dang, it weren't no big thing. I got on, rode it like it was any bike.
I had almost forgotten what a snarling MF that thing is. It kind of puts
an evil grin on your face, and makes gravity relatively unimportant.
The cycle is complete!
Thanks again, and I WILL see you out there.

Thanks Kieth!
I think tomorrow will be a good day to start off the year with ....
a ride!

Likewise! Even though the day started chilly up here in the Sierra
Nevada mountains, the ride to brunch at Lake Tulloch and then a quick
strafing of highway 49 into Mariposa and on through Cathays Valley was
a total blast. I missed the last two annual Polar Bear rides up here
due to snow.

Brrr.
And to think I was complaining about the coldness on Hwy 84 through San
Gregorio (San Mateo County) ...

My best cold weather effort was riding a VF1000R (575 lbs) over Mammoth
Lakes Pass in a snowstorm, at about 8 degrees fahrenheit. I got to Lee
Vining about an hour nad a half after dark, wearing every stitch of
clothing in my gear bag, and frozen to the bone. Talk about a stress test!
I was able to just barely see 20 feet ahead of the bike, with the road
thoroughly iced up and covered with about 6-10" of freshly fallen powder
it was a major effort just to keep it vertical.
Not a planned outcome, it just "snuck up" on me, in the middle of April
of all times.
Needless to say the first thing I asked for at the Hotel was "a room
with a bathtub". I soaked for an hour or so, then headed to Friendly's
for their wonderful Fried Chicken Dinner. Always worth the trouble I say.
In the morning I found the bike sitting in a large puddle of coolant.
Getting it to turn over proved to be a problem , too.Exploded O rings
made it puke all it's precious bodily fluids....Big bummer. I was able
to bump start it and made it home by topping off the radiator every 75
miles or so with generic (non-Honda anti-freeze).
Miraculously it "fixed itself" in the process. Gotta love a self healing
Honda!

I would expect that weather more in April than the end of May. My
onboard thermometer on the PC 800 registered 14.7 degrees Farenheit at
Carson Pass at 6am on May 28, 2006. That was FRIGGIN' COLD.
