Question? So the bird went through his visor / goggles / face protection?

Doesn't have to have done.

I was whacked in the side of the head by an avian missile once, and
the shock and sideways smash of my head led to steering inputs that
put me into the next (luckily empty) lane.

If the strike had been on the right rather than the left, and I'd been
travelling in the kerbside lane I might easily have come a cropper.

I got hit by a bird on the highway, it was a smallish bird...

The impact in my upper leg half knocked me off the motorbike and just
about broke my leg (severe bruising... looked like I'd been belted with
a cricket ball by Dennis Lillee).

I imagine that a head impact of similar force would cause sever neck
and spine trauma! And I wouldn't expect a visor to make much difference.

Quite obviously you will have to ask the author of the newspaper article
that, not the person who posted the link to the newspaper article.

OTOH, The WA MRA used to have a visor with a parrot's beak imbedded in it as
part of the exhibits in their safety stand.

I got hit in the ankle by a magpie once. No drama, but it hurt for a couple
of days and it was a hell of a bruise.

Bastard! I had that particular bird nearly blocked from my mind. And yes,
that really hurt. If those things could fly......
