even the Norge has this pitiful helmet strap whatsit. Could't work
out how to fit a lock to the bodywork I suspect.

Naah; wankers do it on Fireblades and and bikes they refer to as "Gixxers"!
Doin' it on a Vespa is very cool in my books.

The 170/60 rear on the FJR was good for 12k, whereas the fatter 180/50
only managed 10k. The narrower tyre seemed better for tipping in and
cornering too. Yamaha recommends the 180/50. >> Stay informed about: Best time to sell or trade in |

I'd suggest the Shinko R003 front, with R005 or R009 rear, but I'm
getting tired of people hearing 'shinko' and simply dismissing them. >> Stay informed about: Best time to sell or trade in |

They bought the technology and advice from Yokohama who made excellent
bike tyres.
I used Shinkos for ages, but the later versions were sized differently
- a 120 Shinko was damn near a 130 and the hack Guzzi didn't like it.

I didn't think of the Shinkos but I wouldn't have automatically dismissed
them.
Too late now; I went to the bikeshop today and I said "I want a BT45 front
and a BT54 rear...." and he replied "no you don't" and I immediately
crumbled with "well whatever you think is right....." so god knows what'll
be on the rims when I go back to pick them up!

Next time you're up for tyres, go see Mike Brace at Goodna. Take a cut

Is that "Two Wheel Tyres"?

Formerly of Two Wheel Tyres, but has been operating out of Church St
Goodna for the last few years. Two Wheel Tyres WERE cheap, but no
longer. Example: set of Shinkos from TWT was fractionally under $400.
Exact same set from Mike Brace sets me back $270.
Mike was talking about relocating, but havent' spoken to him since
November last year. >> Stay informed about: Best time to sell or trade in |

A new one? Or did you get the old one back?
My "cool scooter rider story" goes like this. I pulled up to the lights
on Darlinghurst Rd at the Darlo Bar on the Monster, and a guy on one of
those trellis frame 180cc 2 stroke Gileras pulls up next to me and revs
his engine. I smirk, and wait for the lights to change, whereupon he
hoiks the front wheel up and wheelies down into Kings Cross - I might
have been able to keep up if I wasn't busy trying to keep the bike
upright as I pissed myself laughing... He was _cool!_

They have the same motor (but a cooler frame) as mine.
Mine can definitely wheelie as a friend found out...

Is yours the Aprilia by any chance? In standard trim?
I was just reading a comparo between the Aprilia and the Gilera - they
reckoned that although the Gilera has a way cooler frame, it gives at
least 5mph away.
How about some specs and a mini-review for the non-cognescenti amongst
us Zebee?

No, mine's the Gilera Runner. The spaceframe beastie is the Italjet
Dragster.

Heh, google is your friend.
Mine's not stock anyway, it has the Malossi barrel and hi-comp head,
ported, polished, P&M tuning manifold and reeds, 25mm Dellorto carb
(up from stock 20mm), Vinci expansion chamber with fancy carbon
fibre stinger, bigger 2 pot brakes...
and of course a lairy paint job!
Mini review? It's a hooligan tool! Proper 2 stroke noise, manic
accelleration, encourages anti-social behaviour at every opportunity.
I have different rollers in the variolater as I wanted it to have its
go at city speeds, others with similar spec bikes have them top out at
nearly 160, mine will do up to a bit under 140 but gets a bit
squirrelly at much over 120.
Gets 160km out of the 9l main tank of 98octane even when being ridden
as you know it wants to be, plus a litre of synthetic 2 stroke every
1000km or so.
These were raced in Europe, heaps of go faster bits out there for them if
you are willing to search overseas. THe perfect commuter for people who
don't want to wear out the horribly expensive sticky tyres on their R1s.
