I used to use the BT45s on the K, and liked them.
Moved on to BT010s, which became 012s which became 014s. (on the Hornet)
I like them.
The BT020 was the harder compound more touring tyre.
Just got a pair of Dunlop Qualifiers, but won't comment until I get more
of a feel than achieved in 20 kilometres. (on the Triumph).

If you are talking about a new bike, I think you are well out of date.
AFAIK, dealers would prefer a buyer who needs finance and insurance,
both of which the dealer will make money from.
If a particular model of bike isn't selling well, there may be discounts
available, but they'd be easier for finance/insurance customers.

I don't want to keep the old bike but I can't be without one either
because I use it every day.
I could sell privately. With cars I thought you could get 10% more
than the dealer would give you in a private sale. I assumed bikes
would be the same because they're just a commodity that can be bought
and sold at the end of the day. It seems this is not the case.
CC's post raises an important issue for me: I'm "progressing" to a
600cc bike, but what I /really/ want to do is get a top-rate commuter
bike.
If a 600cc bike is impractical to use as a commuter bike then I have
made a bad choice at the first stage. What I want is *exactly* like
the one I've got, but with a bit more power so I can comfortably take
someone pillion, and beat all cars away from the lights, not just
nearly all of them. I had rejected the idea of just getting the
updated version of the model I have already.
What bikes do you people prefer to be riding when in traffic?

600-750 twins will be considerably easier on tyres and running costs
and easy to commute on:
Suzuki SV650,
Monster 600 to 695 (depending on budget)
Cagiva 650 Raptor
Dullville 750
ER6/ ER5
GS500
Then again, I wouldn't have thought the Hornet 600, FZ6, Z750 options

Same happened to my son's V-Moto. Stolen from his yard, reported to Police
five months later by a lady living three doors down, in the back of a vacant
lot next to her house. The damn thing only moved 200 metres.

Heh.... "you need a Guzzi you do"
Specifically the 750 Breva. Light, neat in traffic, enough go for
pillion work if you don't expect to do much over the legal limit.
A 600 or 750 (do they still make those?) Ducati Monster might be worth
thinking about too.

Blackbird for touring.

I've just fitted the Sprint with Metzler Z6 front and rear, haven't
done enough Ks to comment, but Locky (who fitted the tyres here in
Townsville) commented that he'd fitted the 'C' compound as I tow a
trailer occasionally and the last tyre was badly squared off (from a
run out west). He suggested they were a good compromise between wear
and grip.

The Norge runs those, and they are lovely tyres.
Mine have 11,000 up and still quite a bit of wear left.
