Has all the hallmarks of it. Price too good to be true, pictures don't all
match, spelling mistakes everywhere. Or are Ducati 749s the quickest devaluing
bikes known to man?

Well it's now grown to a 996 and the phone no. is dissconnected
If you email you will likely find that the bike is crated and ready for
dispatch to your home address.
The owner is living overseas and sadly cannot afford to import the bike
You can't view the bike as it is allready crated awaiting dispatch to its
lucky new owner.
The courier will commence delivery once your $ 5K is recieved via bank
transfer.
What a bargin.
These cheap bikes are frequently for sale on ebay . They're often pulled
soon after first appearing oncer viewers notify ebay of the probable scam.

Allways remember the addage "If it sounds too good to be true it probably
is" But some greedy hopeless ignorant sucker will gladly send his $5K off
and then cry poor and complain that he's been ripped off.
There's one born every minute and only one per week dying so there's plenty
of them about.

Could be a post divorce/breakup thing.
A client of mine bought a "280 slk compressor" (1) for $800.00.
The storey goes that he thought he was buying a cast iron model of said
vehicle and went around to look. The seller had broken up wither her banker
hubby who had put the car in her name for some sort of tax reasons, (perhaps
there should have been a "W" in front of that occupation).
He said that the seller had all papers ready to go by the time he got there
and that the car had been advertised for three days before it was sold. I
suppose most people thought it was just too good to be true.

1. I may be slightly wrong about the model number.

W is a Mercedes Chassis Designation. My old 230S is a W111 chassis.

You certainly are. There's no 280 slk compressor. And this story has been
around since the 1914 Cadillac. Or was it a 1911 Rolls.

That all sounds sooo familiar. We saw a classified ad through E-bay for a
campervan and contacted the seller. The price looked very good, but when I
got a response from the so-called seller it soon became clear that it was a
scam.

The campervan, still registered in Australia, was actually in the UK, and
half the asking price had to be paid directly to a shipping company that had
the campervan.

Very dodgy, and it was promptly reported to E-bay.

Cheers,
Dale.

errm,, well I did see the car and several others plus plethora of merc cast
iron, plastic and even some wooden models in his house,,, he could have been
telling porkies about the price and story I really don't know.
As for the model number of the car, well I don't know much about mercs
either and it was about 8 years ago.

I replied to a classified ad for a 2003 ElectraGlide for only $3285
Now we all know that a classified ad price is the price of whatever.
Too good to be true?....maybe but if you don't ask, then you don't find out
so I replied to it telling the seller that I would buy the bike unseen
The bike supposedly was in Sydney and I was ready to drive up to pick it up,
But the reply I got was :
"The bike is in Sydney, but I am in England and a friend is holding the bike
for me,
Send me the money, then I will tell you where the bike is and you can pick
it up"
I sent him an email telling him that I wouldn't part with any money till I
had seen the bike and that I would pay his friend in full at point of
pick-up, but he wouldn't listen to that.
So I sent in a report to eBay and all they said was "Thanks for your email
and we will check on it"
But the next day, the ad was pulled and I havent seen it any more.

Stop digging Noel, you're just making the hole deeper. My son just happens
to be currently driving the company SLK 350 , which he is about to trade in
as soon as the C63 arrives, probably in March. I have personally owned a
Merc since 1972. Still have a 230S waiting for some loving attention in the
back shed. I have most MB books of note on my bookshelves.

Firstly the model is not 280SLK but SLK 280. The 280 had a 3.0 litre
normally aspirated engine. The earlier SLK 230 had a Compressor and was made
from 1998. I believe the 280 replaced it circa 2005 or 6.

Cheers
Theo

Mate I'm not doubting your merc credentials,, I am just relating what I was
told.. I would tend to think that the afore mentioned storey (the bmw one)
was a scam, but it reminded me of the storey I was told.. at least the guy
paid me cash so I would have to believe that the cheque was in the mail.
