OK. Yesterday, I met Tami and Eric at Hollister Hillsat about 8:30AM.
The HardWorkingDog and his freshly turned 18 year old pup arrived
later. Before Charles and Bryne showed up, we managed 22 miles of
riding. About 1/3 on Troll trail. Eric man-handled my kickstand
spring onto the kickstand pin with nuthing but a decent set of channel
lock pliers and persistance. He was on his ass a few times. That's a
friend. Traction was superb and riding the off-camber slides on Troll
Trail were easy for a change. We also rode Peat's path and Jays way.
These 2 trails were severly hammered. I am so very happy I have good
boingers. Tami slammed her way through it on the Pampera, and I
figured she was going to hammer me for taking her on those trails
after specific instructions to avoid the sever bike wheel base legth
chop. I was on them a few weeks ago and they were pretty good. I
guess it doesn't take long for those trails to get hammered when it's
wet. I still enjoyed them because it required a certain amount of
speed to ride smooth.

I rode Eric's 250 and everytime I do, I'm simply amazed at how easy
that bike is to ride. It's jetted perfect, super smooth and just,
ah..ahmmm,,,,goes. It just goes. Later in the day, I even found 2
logs to cross just for the fun of it. It was a good day. I saw both
the Dog and the Pup hit terra firma on the same hill. It was way
harder than I thought it would be. Charles landed just like a cat
except opposite. He was coming down and dropped off of a ledge and
grabbed the front brake just a few inches too early and the bike
started to nose stand. Charles wasted no time and aborted stage left.
His momentum combined with the bike falling his direction flung him
into the next huge rain rut, head uphill and camel bak filling the
bottom of the rut. Unhurt, Charles rode on. The Pups front end push
lowside was ever so close to the bottom.

I lowsided once on a downhill switchback and fell over stopped. The
later sucked. All in all a fantastic day. The park was packed, but
it didn't seem to be an issue except when trying to get to the
entrance of Peat's path. There were riders everywhere, going every
direction. It was a wild scene and I'm glad we left it behind
quickly. It was just a damn good day dirtbiking with friends.

That was a fine if short day of riding, one that will be remembered
fondly all this week as I limp around at work. It had been 5 weeks
before we last rode, and 6 months before that one and I'm horribly out
of riding shape. But it was warm, sunny and calm, a real gift after
the weeks of rain we've had. The short part was my own doing
completely. After 24 miles, I was spent.

Ya know Mike, somehow I would've been disappointed if you'd NOT found
a few spots like that, despite my whispered plea to take it easy on an
out of shape old fart like me...

Translation: on my friggin' head. LIterally. My "new" Arai isn't so
new anymore. And then I tested it out on a 6" limb that was about 4
feet off the ground. My helmet made a very nice "clunk" on that one
too. Felt kinda like Mr. Cook for a minute or two.

That hill was about a 50% grade, with your choice of 4 ruts, each
about 12-15 inches deep. Damn. I KNOW I could make it next time, too Smile

I'm still on the high from yesterday. There's nothing that makes me
feel so alive than riding with friends and family. The sore muscles
and memories of pushing myself and surviving are strangely addicting...

Thanks for the ride report, Mike.
I'm glad to hear that Tami was out on the Pampera.

Glad to hear that you all got out. I'm more than a little bit jealous.
