Post subject: How do I get ready for a motorcycle vacation?

Hello!

My boyfriend wants to do this vacation: Dirt biking in Laos
and I want to be ready for it. I am 40 years old and know the basics about how to ride a bike but haven't been on one in years, and never did any rough dirt biking. Do you know of any courses or anything I can do to get ready for this? It sounds like so much fun I dont' want to be left behind! I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Any suggestions?

Well the best thing you can do is seat time, riding as much as possible.
The help that process a local class my help on riding, the pro's even have
coaches to help them. One of the biggest things you could do is increase
your fitness level, that will help you be able to ride better and longer and
hopefull enjoy the trip more instead of being beat tired. Last but not
least if your going on a trip like that you need to come back on here when
you get home and tell us about it.

There is no subsitute for experience. But, if you want to be able to
do the most with trail riding, find a "Trials" school (not trails
school). The classes will teach you what to do and WHY you do them.
You can take as many classes as you want, but just like a musical
instrument, it still wil take practice, practice.........and then more
practice.

At 40, you're should able to do everything it takes to ride some
pretty rough trails assuming you're in physical shape. You won't win
any races, but you won't fall far behind either.

I'm not sure of the terrain in Laos, but I would prepare for mud,
rocks and hills. Everything else is just trail. Smile
