Man, things could not go better for me. I think I did my prayers right... Smile

First, I got the visa and I am going to meet you folks! Woo hoo! Can't wait. Yesterday was my b-day
and I had a shot of Pitu Gold cachaca just to celebrate! I was with my gf, riding my DS bike on
Recife at night and it rained so hard yesterday we got home soaked to the bones. Nothing better than
riding on the cold rain to make a beautiful lady get real close to you... <g>

Hey Wes, if you find the real Pitu Gold (no, Ypioca gold is *not* the same thing), go for it.
Doesn't taste like alcohol, as the regular Pitu tastes.... It's decided. I'm bringing a bottle of
Pitu Gold. I was thinking on getting a cachaca from Minas Gerais (another brzl state, famous for
it's excelent cachacas), but I'd rather bring a product of my state. Pitu cachaca is made at Vitoria
de Santo Antao (read my last enduro ride report).

And, to make things even better, I'm going to change jobs! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! I'm leaving this mad
pit!!!!!! Don't know if I will be able to post to RMD as often as I post today, but for sure it will
be waaaaay better on the new job! No more stupid management, no more coming to work without knowing
what I'll do, no more stupid tasks that are assigned just to prevent me from taking courses. I'm
really tired of working hard and not seeing my work going into production, but rather going to
windows recycler bin.

yiippeee!!!! Life's *great*! Well, my car still have a not-turning-off oil light, but hey, you can't
have everything, can you? Very Happy

Tiago,

Great news and happy birthday!

Related to the car... I know that the 1.8 liter VW engines of that era
(A2) are very sensitive to having the correct (20w50) oil. You mentioned
that the oil had just been changed prior to this trip - perhaps the wrong
oil was used? In the 1.8 liter US cars, the wrong oil (10w40 for example)
will cause the oil light to stay on. I wonder if it's the same deal with
your 1.6 engine. Does yours have that awful buzzer too?

There are a couple of other common possibilities too, including the oil
pump or bad sensors (one at the oil filter and one in the block above the
transmission bellhousing). Doing a search at
rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled should turn up some helpful info. Sorry I
can't be more helpful, but I'm quickly forgetting everything I knew about
old VWs now that I don't own one (just a newer one that will eventually be
old and I'll have to learn it all over again). The mileage you mentioned
is low for a VW, and I wouldn't expect any major failures yet.

Good luck,

The 1.6 engine is a Ford engine... Smile Back in 1989, Ford of Brasil had only three engines
available: 1.6 for cars, 4.? for trucks and a diesel for trucks. VW had lots of different engines
but had few models. They married each other and made "autolatina", sharing models and engines. Later
in 93 (94?) they split and went back to be ford and vw. The engine on my car is a "Ford CHT" engine,
which, in turn was an old Renault project. I have a brazilian car, made by a german company, with a
american engine projected by the french. ouch! This engine does not have a timing belt, but rather
it has a timing chain, like motorcycles and is a very economic engine... It have a considerable
rattle, even when the chain and tensor are new. Mine are not-so-new, I need new chain and tensor...
I put Ypiranga F1, 20w50, a good quality oil from a brazilian oil company. I must confess that I
don't stick to an oil brand, I put the cheapest I can find, USD2.5/liter this time.

hmm, interesting, some googling might be on order...

when everything works out right.

It's not a good idea to learn to ignore red warning lights -- cover the
light with black electrical tape.

Congratulations on everything listed below (before it was snipped).
If you fly in or out of North Carolina, there will be drinking
involved.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Oh... uh... never mind then. Wink

I did a quick google search to see what the Gol looks like. Pretty neat
looking car IMO. I'm cursed by liking old VWs.

I like it. It have lots of power for my needs. I find it pretty looking too, but I'd rather have the
sedan version (that was sold in US under the name "fox"), more space would be more than welcome....
The station wagon version is ugly.

The problem on my car... A short on the dashboard... The oil light wire was touching the temperature
gauge wire.... Rusty conections.

Funny... I don't much care for the Fox sedan, but I do like the Fox wagon.
Different tastes and all...

Good heavens. "Cheap" oil here is $.79/qt, and that's name brand Arco.
I guess that makes up for the price difference of the Cachaca.

Happy Birthday.
