I rode up to the store and, on my way back, saw gas spewing out of the
carburetor. Turned off the gas and coasted home. It was the left carb,
on the downhill side of the bike. I don't use the center stand.
Took the carb off to see a hole in the case that goes all the way
through, roughly the diameter of a standard paper clip.
And I sez, what the diddly? It's a Bing flat top with aluminum body.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what caused this?
I got some gas tank putty yesterday. I'll take the thing apart and clean
it, then stuff putty in that hole with a standard paper clip.
I just had the clutch plate replaced last month. Crikey! Will this ever
end? First it was the fuel lines. Then the clutch. Now this annoyance.
It's like the bike is cursed. I'm gonna have to take it to a gypsy.

You lose: Pete quit drinking many moons ago, and therefore has no sake. (Or
beer, either.) ;-P >> Stay informed about: Oh, for pete's sake! |

Sounds like a casting defect or a crack. Since you
describe it as a pinhole, I'd guess casting defect.
Just to make really sure, we're talking about a
hole in the float bowl casting or the carb body
proper ? There are a couple of little holes on
the valve end of the intake passage that you really,
really don't want to fill in.

Other choices might include J. B. Weld or epoxy or solder
if the putty doesn't hold. You also see carbs on eBay for
maybe $100 a pair, depending on size. If it's an R65,
the good news is that they're small carbs and hence
not something anybody wants for a hop up.

The more you can do yourself, the better. Good on ya for
tackling the carb problem. >> Stay informed about: Oh, for pete's sake! |

My Bings have holes in them too . But they have a tube attached. Vent tubes.
Plug them and there will be a problem .Mine would overflow once in a while
until I bought new floats. I put the old ones on the weigh scale and found
they were saturated and very heavy which lead to high fuel levels in the
bowls. Once replace I have not had any more problems. Part of normal service
at mileage.

Psst! Barb, if it's an F650, it's a single.
If it's a boxer twin that looks like an F650
it's an F800. >> Stay informed about: Oh, for pete's sake! |
