Well, I'm a teacher at a local Uni for business studies, and among other
things the correct way to use the news and email, and I always make sure
people will understand that top-posting is a very bad idea indeed.
It just isn't logical and is very unclear. Instead one should delete
unnecessary parts of the original message and use > symbols to indicate the
comments that they'd like to address, making sure the name&address of the
original poster is clearly understandable for each reply line.
This creates a very logical and easy-to follow read and saves bandwidth.
When a person hasn't done this elimination of extra lines, one can just hit
the end key instead of scrolling to get to the end.
More problems in top-posting come from the fact that top-posters very often
don't even read the whole message, or their replies are ambiguous to a new
reader, since they aren't in a logical order and in correct places.
Furthermore, if people don't take the time to answer properly and edit the
message accordingly, their replies also usually reflect this and top-posted
messages often not only misunderstand and alter the point of the original
message, are also the weapon of choice for flamers and trolls because it
seems the easy way out of you are not very competent with writing on a
keyboard and editing text. later it becomes a second nature and takes no
extra time.
Furthermore, when one reads a thread not from the beginning, but comes along
later, it is very confusing and hard indeed having to scroll back and forth
huge amounts of text in order to understand the latest replies, which make
no sense out of context and in an illogical order.
So please please quit top-posting!
A: It generates illogical structures
Q: Why?
A: One should avoid top-posting
Not good.
Cheers,
Dee
