Its been a loooong time since I worried about adding classes to my license,
so would someone please tell me-
When I read the bike ads for 400 and 500cc bikes, and it says "learner
legal", what's that mean?
Is it one of these you-gotta-sit-your-test-on-a-big-bike-to-ride-a-big-bike
sort of things?

If you inspect a bike that claims to be learner legal (in NSW) you can
verify that by looking at the rego sticker... just below (at the bottom
right) where it says "Cond:" if it states LAM then its a Learner Legal bike.

No, you haven't read the regs properly.

A 600 with the same power to weight ratio as a modern 4 stroke 250.

And yeah, you can ride a Goldie on Ls... ride one and compare it for
speed, acelleration, and ease of use to a 250 a learner can't ride in
NSW, like an RGV.

For real grins, go to the ACT where you can ride a Harley or my Guzzi on
L plates.

Oddly enough, they don't seem to be splattering learners over the
landscape there.

Of course this might be for the same reasons that when the 250 rule was
introduced into NSW the learner fatality rate dropped by a whole 3%.

Whereas when training was introduced, it dropped by over 20%.

Sorry to say but "it's now how big it is, it's how you use it" is true
in bikes too.

yes I did, you didn't Surprised)

It seems a good idea. I remember when I was on Ls. In the UK. I just missed
the 250cc learner law, they reduced it to 125cc. So I had a lightweight bike
that revved twice as much to keep up with the 250s. Hardly a good move I
thought.

Still not my worry, I got the ticket Surprised)

There was an interesting fact bought up at the Stay Upright advanced school
last week, it was that when training was introduced (I think about 12 years
ago) the fatalities dropped from over 20 something per year to 3...
immediately...

If its true then its greater than 20%, but maybe they pulled the worst
case/ best case stats out of the bag for that.

Sorry Zeb, it's 660cc so yes there are a number of 650's that classify -
F650 BMW, Aprilia 650 Peg, etc

Your Yamaha would be learner legal...

"So far Howard's luck has survived a great deal: his move to dismiss
broken election pledges by distinguishing between "core" and "non-core"
promises; his retrospectively time-limited "never ever" pledge on the
goods and services tax; his vagueness about when he committed Australia
to war against Iraq; his shifting standards for ministerial conduct; his
demonising of asylum seekers as child killers; his tendency to blame
"advice" rather than to openly accept responsibility when things go wrong."
Will Howard's luck survive another election ? Do Australians not care
that their PM is a liar ?
