| My friend have some problems with his new Kawasaki vulcan 800 2002. The
engine stop for no reason and will restart by it's self after the gas tank
is switch to primer (sometimes) with a half gas tank full. The dealer can't
find the problem. Anybody have the same problem ? My Yamaha FZ1 2001 is
working fine...vroummm.

Your description was a little vague as to how the engine stops, does
it stop abruptly or slowly dies like it is starving for fuel?
Assuming it is acting like a starvation problem for fuel rather than
abruptly like an ignition problem, when it stops running pull off the
fuel line at the carb or carbs and check to make sure there is an
adequate amount of fuel, what happens if you let is just sit for a
period and cool down without switching the tank valve? will it start
fine then? if that is the case and runs well until the engine becomes
hot again, my guess would be a vapor lock problem. If that is not the
case in the regards to the engine heating up, there might be a problem
with something restricting the fuel either at the valve or in the tank,
you might have to remove the valve assembly and check the pickup screen
inside the tank.
If on the other hand the engine dies instantly with no missing or
hesitation, I would be looking into the idea of it losing the ignition
circuit, and that you can check by having a spare spark plug and
grounding the threads to the engine and checking for spark by removing
one of the plug wires and installing it on your spare plug you have
grounded to the engine.
I hope that helps some,
David

Thanks for your info. My friend told me that the last times his motorcycle
stop he noticed that the motor was acting like he was running out of gas. We
will try out this and let you know. Thanks again David.

Yes, use a SPARE spark plug, do not remove the spark plug and ground it
directly above the hole (where all the gas fumes will come out).
