Say someone were to win an Ebay auction, and then later read in a reply
to a question from another bidder that there is allegedly a reserve on
the item far greater than the winning bid, it could be going to get
interesting no?

No doubt the seller will just claim a mistake, but this is blatantly
against Ebay policy is it not?

Prolly just as well there is no prospect of forcing a sale really, as
there just isn't any more room in the garage.

Unless of course the seller has lowered/removed the reserve...

Hmm, well the first bid (of two) was on 13/2 and the message mentioning
a reserve was today sometime.

In any case the seller has sent me the invoice, so perhaps you are
right. Still slightly rum as the seller thinks a 3 1/2 hour drive makes
me local. Going to play this one carefully I think.

Guess. I gave a clue in a thread that got on to the longevity of fuel
injection and other modern electronic wizardry not long ago.

Well, quite. I just have a (probably unjustified) feeling that the
seller may have intended to set a (far from realistic) reserve and
screwed up. You know where it says "local pickup only". Cue League of
Gentleman voice, "but your *not* local".

No, but you know the famous quote (except I don't know who said it),
"Paranoia is often justified".

They haven't replied to my message asking for the registration number
yet.

Has the seller moved the item away from you since the end of the
auction?

Reg No provided , and as enquiries reveal that all seems in order a sig
modification is required.

It's very cosmetically challenged but that is not a problem.
<pats complete set of brand new bodywork stored in loft for ten years>

It falls in line with my 2 of everything strategy. An early CDI model so
that gives me a complete set of the electronic bits to keep at least one
of them going. I may "restore" it or mix and match to make one smart
bike and one hill climb bike.

Now all I need to do is find a cheap old Voxan Roadster (or rather
*another*).
