I currently have possession of an exchange HS student from Paris, and
I wanted to do some stuff that she can't do at home. Driving a big
American pickup truck is on the list. Easter Sunday we terrorized the
neighborhood on the dirt bikes (she mostly tooled around on the mini-
kwad). Sure, you can ride dirtbikes in Europe, but not in Paris
(Rustling cattle? Through the Vatican?). I also taught her how to
shoot a rifle - pellet guns and .22s off of my back deck, which was
the best can't-do-in-Europe thing so far. She was typically euro-
nervous around the guns, but she hit everything she aimed at - good
coach I guess Wink. Anything else common over here that you can't do in
Europe?

Thanks - JayC

Get friendly and courteous service at a restaurant where portion-size
isn't measured in grams?

Is she here to avoid the annual rioting, raping, and car-burning by
"youths" of a single particular extraction?

Other than the guns, and typical inner city vs more rural living
that's applicable in most any country, I can't think of much else. I
guess french fries won't impress her?

When ever I have an international guest I take them uptown and mingle with
the locals ...go to the farmers market...go to the Blue Ridge
Parkway...Cracker Barrell...any local activities in the newspaper...The
local mom & pops bbq joint...eventually we wind up blowing it out with the
stereo blaring drinking like hell and...

Just slight detour for normal people. Just another
part of the route if you use Holistic Land
Navigation techniques like I do. I use it all the
time, I was an hour from Denver (coming from
Kansas) and decide to take the next right. Checked
the map for towns and just followed the road where
it wanted me to go. Naturally a couple hours later
just north of Casper the alternator puked.

History does not record anywhere at any time a
religion that has any rational basis. Religion is
a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up
to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff,
most people do have a religion and spend time and
money on it and seem to derive considerable
pleasure from fiddling with it.

I'd say more of a city kid trait than European.
I grew up on a farm in the south of France and we had guns. No handguns as
they are not legal, but everybody had 12 gauges. We used to go hunt at night
with the tractor.
You should take her to a rodeo and then square dancing or a drive in theatre.

OH, fer cryin' out loud, people!

It's an obscure reference to the movie Blazing Saddles...

"What's your offense?"

"Stampeding cattle."

"So?"

"Through the Vatican."

"Kinky..."

Sorry. Guess that scene was somewhat overshadowed by the cookout scene by
the fire because that's really all I remember of the movie. Oh, and Cleavon
Little holding himself hostage saying, "I'll shoot the nigger!" Smile

I am hungry, so I can't think much, besides France is a country where
people live to eat...

- big thick deliciously greasy burgers
- hot mexican food
- home made bbq that produces lots of smoke
- food that is sweet but was suposed to be salty: ribs and corn comes
to mind...

and, the last but not least: that weird thing cooked in tomato sauce
that comes in cans, the only food that I will pass any time on future:
baked beans. Mind you, there is no food (except baked beans) that I
don't like.

what? Still three hours until lunch time????
