Ok Here is the problem. 3 months ago just prior to the Washougal Nat'l,
I won a DRZ110 in raffle. I had been looking for a used bike that size
for several months for my two young daughters. I race the vet class and
my girls wanted to give MX a shot. Well, after many laps in the back
yard and a practice session on the outdoor MX track last weekend, the
girls are race ready. This weekend is an indoor rough scrambles event.
We will do the open practice on Saturday then race on Sunday. The rub is
that my wife thinks Sundays are for church. She is adament that we can
practice on Saturday but the girls need to go to church on Sunday(it's
OK for me to race on Sunday, apparently my soul is too far gone). My
feeling is that God dropped this bike in my lap so it should be used.
Should I sneak the girls out Sunday morning? Your thoughts appreciated.

Fear the rath of spouse, it'll be much more immediate.
My wife is from a family of cat-lick-ers (you'll get it if you say it
a few times) and they were into doing saturday-evening services if
they had plans for sunday. An option for you family's denomination?

Try this one, say aloud until you get it: it helps to have a *friend*
listen.

Two boys were walking home from Sunday school after hearing a strong
preaching on the devil. One said to the other, "What do you think about
all this Satan stuff?" The other boy replied, "Well, you know how Santa
Claus turned out. It's probably just your dad."

Dear Burning in Hell,

Is your wife against your daughter racing on the 'Lord's Day'....
if not, fine a church that has a service, at a time that will accommodate
your daughter's race schedule.
Possibly a Saturday night or early Sunday morning service.

I'm a member in good standing of the Church of the Great
Outdoors (not sure how indoor hare scrambles fit into this).

Many churches offer a Saturday evening mass.

Guess you could always switch to Seventh Day Adventist.

Personally, I think you should declare yourself a Druid.
Then conversing with trees would be condoned.

Lucky you!
Lucky girls!

I think that if you piss off your wife too much you'll
be thankful to spend a relaxing eternity Down There after what
you go through Up Here!

It could be that her real issue is with the girls racing and not so
much with church. You could ask her, or just take them to an evening or
weekday service and then racing. If she finds another objection you'll
know what the real issue is and you can deal with that.

Paul,

as far as i can tell God reserved sunday for not-working,
fanatic-micro-minds turned this into "everything but church is prohibited on
sundays".
Havenīt talked to The Man on this subject lately, but i think itīs safe to
say entering a game on sunday is OK.
I checked with wifey (religious fanatic #1), she said something like "pray
to live, donīt live only to pray", draging your girls to church against
their will might alienate them from the intention of the religion.
Talk to your wife, run through the book with her, emphesize that you donīt
wanna go riding with them every sunday.
Make her understand God places the familly first, He allows for the persuit
of happiness.
Bottom line is: youīre on your own here, if you play your cards wright the
familly wins.

If your wife feels that strong about church tell her they also have evening
services she & the girls can attend. God is in your heart not a building.
Something I have found over the years, there are some very good young kids
racing MX. They are polite, helpful, they try to take care of themselves
mentally & physically and that is a reflection of their parents. Church is only
"one" building block in raising good children.

My preferred altar of spiritval worship is ovr single track movntain
trail system. Occasionally I cry ovt to my god (probably not the same
one yov know) in angvish, in joy and in fear. I take commvnion in the
emerald waters of the creeks and rivers. I sacrifice my body and sovl,
at times leaving scant offerings of bone, blood or flesh. I confess to
being overwhelmed by the beavty and serenity. I immerse myself in the
total sense of spiritvality to be fovnd in the rvgged, remote hills
and canyons where natvre has been qvietly scvlpting and carving the
terrain for eons. I happily face the adversity and obstacles placed in
my path, overcoming them (mostly <g>), thvs affirming my faith.

When I die, my wife has instrvctions to spread half my ashes on a good
section of single track and half in a good trovt stream. The former is
a no brainer, I'll spend eternity on the trail, heaven. The latter is
a little deeper. I figvre my ashes will travel with the sand and silt
as they slowly make their way to the oceans. Bits of my beloved
movntains, slowly being worn away and transported thovsands of miles
to the sea floor only to be swallowed vp in a grand geologic recycling
scheme. Someday, maybe millions of years in the fvtvre, those very
sands will once again be regvrgitated by the earth in its never ending
movntain bvilding project. Maybe, jvst maybe, I'll become part of
another single track trail or a tree right next to one.......

Unfortvnately, my altar is sheathed in a mantle of blve ice and deep
snow at the moment. While this is good for those faithfvl worshipers
who revel in these conditions (snowmobilers) I am temporarily cast ovt
into the Pvrgatory of the Desert. Not to worry for me, it is bvt one
more test of my faith and dedication. Spring *will* come once again
won't it?

However, I mvst take solstice in the fact that I will probably never
be offered vp to the devil himself (herself?), and have to spend time
in Hell, better known as an "OHV Park"......<G>

Yea, tho I ride throvgh the Valley of Death on Gnarly Rocky Trails, I
fear no evil, for I have a bash plate, bark bvsters a spare tvbe and a

I think part of it is she is against her racing period so this is an
easy excuse. Asking her to change churches to accommodate a racing
schedule would be like asking Christ to eliminate the adultery
commandment. I think I'll try the rational approach first and see how it
goes.
