I live in Southern California, and I usually just laugh at you poor souls
who live in places where it rains a lot and gets cold during the winter.
After all, I can usually ride all year long with hardly any discomfort.
Until the last week or so...
You see, we've had almost non-stop rain and cold weather (50's) for the past
two weeks.
Now you guys can laugh at me-- I've been stuck in a car for two weeks. ARG!

Rain and 50F? And that made you go to the car? Pansy.

It isn't so much the lousy weather as the fact that southern Californian
intersections were frequently not built with drainage in mind; bringing to
mind the old conundrum:
Q: What's worse than a drowned cage?
A: A drowned bike!
(On a news clip the other day I saw a sport biker resolutely plowing through
an intersection where the water was almost up to his seat! His wake was
impressive.)

Pussy
I rode on New Years day in Akron Ohio, at 35 degrees F, on my old CB900F
Supersport. And I can hear some of those diehard H-D riders out on the
superslab right now.

Yeah, 50 degrees and raining around here means only one thing: Aerostich and
a little less lean angle...

I've actually come to enjoy riding in the rain. It's just the damn suiting
up that is a major pita.
I got Gore-Tex. I got Gerbings. I go riding.
I'm kind of amused at people who look at me like I'm crazy when I walk into
a restaurant in the foothills that's 40 degrees out side and raining like
hell. They all expect me to run to the fireplace and order coffee. "No,
make it a lemonade with extra ice."
More fun at night in the country when it's rainy and dark. Now that's the
combination where you need a GPS set on 120 feet to see the next turn.
Kind'a like an ILS approach. Just need to suck in a lot of Billberry for
better night vision (old military pilot's trick) before attempting your
rainy night wings.

Why are you stuck in a car?
It is 50 degrees colder here and I ride.
