Ebay item 220191753781

I've always fancied a Bantam Bushman, and originally thought this one
would hit £1400, but it looks like it'll go for more, as it's still
got five days to run.

God, but it is *gorgeous*.

Agreed, it does look rather good. It would be interesting to know how
much the vendor has done to it, I've never seen one as clean as that!

That's very nice albeit a bit shiny - certainly better than my old
D14/4. I wouldn't be suprised to see it top £2k.

Indeedy.
I had the D14 4/S - which was similar. High level pipe, heavier forks, full
width hubs. Nice, but I still wanted a Bushman Wink

Little wonder the SOBB business went down the pan - or is it sarcasm?

OTOH, it might be Orange's DNS playing funnybuggers -- I'm having all
sorts of problems accessing various other sites ATM. Some work, some don't...

£ 1300 and climbing.

Hmm - I wonder if I can persuade folks that my B31 is really a Bushman ?

"BSA was going under, along with all the other British motorcycling
firms due to the Japenese invasion of the '60s. The Japanese bikes
offered less engine life, slower top speeds, less fuel efficiency.
They included indicators and every mod con that was going, and they
were most importantly cheaper. This was probably the single most
factor that caused the revolution, the change in attitudes towards
manufacturing. The British bikes were built to last forever, the
Japenese bikes were not."

Nope, I really think the twonk who wrote it believed it.

That said, the Bushman deserved better. Bert Hopwood recalls how he
had a plan to upgrade the Bantam, restyle it, add oil injection and
fight the Japanese lightweights. I'm sure, actually, that the improved
bike would have sold.

The thing about the Bushman is that it just looks so cute.

Auction end:

£1372.00 "Reserve not met"

I think the owner's being a tiny bit greedy with the reserve, coz he'd
obviously have got a sale with three or four strong bidders, and I
suspect several walked away after getting RNM on a raised bid.

It does look really nice though.

I assume it's basically the four-speed Bantam engine?

Regards,

Simonm.

Yep - nothing special about 'em in the engine department.

Apart from the Lucas energy transfer ignition, they were more or less a
standard D14 made
to look off road-ish.

Except the only thing special about energy transfer ign was its lack of
sparks at the right time.
Here's mine, but not a bushman.
It's a D1/3/7/10/B175

Anyone spot the missing model parts.

That was my impression too. A mate who's into old BritShit put me onto
it, and I told him my bet was £1200-1400, which he also thought was on
the money. I must say, with the very strong early bidding, I was
wondering whether it would go quite a bit higher, but RNM at nearly
£1400 must have put people off.
