Hi,
My honda vtr shop manual refers to the fuel cup/strainer as a
maintenance item, but doesn't point out where it is. Is it seated
between the tank and the fuel valve? Just wanted to make sure I'm
pulling apart the right pieces when I start. As you can tell I haven't
worked on bikes before, I really expected there to be a simple inline
fuel filter instead.
thanks,

On the bikes I've had, that strainer is in the petcock assembly. You
should probably google your bike along with "fuel strainer." A lot of
bikes still have those, even though people use the inline fuel filters.
One of these days I have to take my tank apart and check that thing. I
think it's probably clogged with floating bits of eucalyptus flowers
from the gas station.

Sorry I don't recall. My VTR is now a parts donor, having been destroyed
by a large deer last year.
You might try lifting the tanks and looking under there.

It would be nice if you'd mention the year and engine size when you ask
a technical question. The very popular VTR1000 doesn't have those
parts.
But, I guess that you are asking about a VTR250, which does have a fuel
cup and strainer attached to the petcock underneath the gas tank.
If you want to see parts diagrams, you can go to www.partsfish.com and
register and you can browse the diagrams for free.
The www.bikebandit.com site doesn't require registration, but the
browsing is slower. >> Stay informed about: where is the fuel cup & strainer? |

Hey, I just happen to have a VTR1000F shop manual for sale ( a few
grease spots here and there, of course). If you want it, I'll sell if
for 25.00.otd
