OK, I was obviously trolling, I certainly didn't expect to hook you, but
I'd forgotten this was a sensitive topic. Of course there aren't rules,
at least not in the sense of 'this is the way we did things back in the
day, so this is the way things should be forever.'

But there are norms of civilised behaviour. You don't fart in your
grandmother's kitchen if you want to be invited back. You don't have to
adopt these norms but you hardly have any right to complain if there are
consequences when you don't.

Most of aus.moto bottom post (even Frosty) but some contrary types
don't. Hardly matters, unless your post is something like: "Where do I
get a cheap Trumpy triple clamp?" If you genuinely want a response,
you're probably better off posting like the majority do.

And if you re-read it you'll see my shot at Yeebers was more like a
gentle poke in the ribs than the start of a flame war.

Lol. No it was entirely taken in the spirit I perceived it, which was,

Providing IK's not still pissed at me I think we can call it a day on
that one. Don't think I'll stop copping flak for top posting tho.

Does anyone here configure their *email* to bottom post ? As Andrew
alluded to, Thunderbird defaults to top posting for mail and bottom for
news. I just prefer to read the new stuff at the top, but there are
times when 'inline' remarks are more suited.. however, personally, not
when the 'whole thing' is being replied to as in this case.

Oh, and I am not sure being in the same group as Frosty is necessarily a
good thing.. is it ?

Damn right they do. I actually don't recall the Thunderbird defaults
because I changed things within 30 seconds of starting to use it. Tools
> Account Settings > (select your news provider) > Composition and
Addressing > "Start my reply below the quote".

If you want to be a top-poster in some froups [1] and bottom-poster in
others, just create multiple instances of your provider.

The fact that top-posting makes sense is beside the point. You're not on
a crusade.
