Archived from groups: aus>motorcycles (more info?)

hey y'all,

About a week ago I posted the happy news that I'd finally picked up a
bike.
I've been fanging around sydney on my Spada ever since and I'm o so
loving it.

Just wondering if anyone out there's got a copy of the Spada workshop
manual..
I dropped the oil and coolant the other day and it was scary... the
filter was messed up.
Want to check valve clearances and camchain tensioners, synchronise
carbs, have a general fiddle etc- so a manual would be very
reassuring!

Also I've done only ~10km since my oil and filter change and the oil
is very dark already. Is this normal or am i experiencing HELLA
blowby/oil toastage.
It isn't smoking at all and it pulls fine...

Iain Chalmers you out there?
did you say 150,000?????
Man like you sure would have accumulated some Spada wisdom by now!!

Yeah any help would be great,

btw the site users.totalise.co.uk/~spada seems to have lost most of
the pdf manual i hear was once available there.

Cheers,

Chris

Yep, there's about 27 meg worth of pdfs - I could burn them onto a cd
for you if you like?

Valve clearances are easy. They're screw and locknut type adjustment so
there's no shims to measure and swap. The manual says 6 thou on the
inlets an 8 thou on the exhausts (both +-0.8thou)

Cam chain I got done on the original motor at about 70,000km, but I
killed that motor at a track day at around 120,000km, and I was just
thinking about doing them again myself on the replacememnt motor
(10,000km old when I got it, according to Metros) when it became
unneccessary Sad

Syncing carbs is something I never bothered doing myself - any workshop
has a set of guages and if thats all you ask them to do they only charge
you $20 or so... (It is worth getting done though, having it set right
makes a big difference in how smoothly it'll go from closed to open
throttle, it's _much_ nicer to ride when its synced up properly)

Thats pretty normal. There's about 500ml of old oil still in the motor
when you drain it and take the filter off. You mix that with the 2L of
new oil and it stops being that nice new-oil honey colour pretty
quickly... (the manual says "Oil Capacity: 1.8L at draining, 2.0L at oil
filter change, 2.5L at disassembly")

Yeah, it had 40,000 on it when I got it, and 190,000 when it got run
over...

I like to think so... Smile

Yeah that would be AWESOME!
Camchain is already quite noisy at startup- it's done 56,000 after
all... I've got no real problem with a bit of noise but I'll change
them soon (~5000k from now) with the help of that workshop manual!

I would really appreciate it if you could send me a CD of the manual-
I'll email you my address.

That's a relief

I went to coles yesterday (about 2km away) and returned via Coogee via
Maroubra via La perouse! (about 30km in the city to get a
lightbulb)?!!

That run along the last stretch of Anzac Pde to La Perouse was loads
of fun- the handling of this bike is insanely good at speed. Soaks up
the local council's shabby roads with confidence what's more.

Hell of a 250!

I grabbed it for 2900... reckon that's an ok price??
It's in great nick in all the right ways.

Thanks for your help Iain!
