OK today I ordered all my parts, a nice 1850 worth and also an N102, so
2350 all up. I put 1k down as deposit and asked if I could collect a
loaner for a few days.
Previously I've been given a loaner when waiting for a clutch cable (and
every other time I've asked) so I sorta thought it was a given I could
get one based on previous experience.
Anyway the boss and the dude who does the loans is away and I got told no.
Am I right to feel gypped ? I know I might be a little keen to get on a
bike after almost 3 months, and have that anticipation skewing my
expectations, but I still feel rather gypped.
Is that unfair of me ? >> Stay informed about: Am I right to feel gypped ? |

Nope. I'd be inclined to cancel the order.

There's one local dealer that does Hyo parts.. and that's these guys,
who're normally good, as stated. Beyond that it's a ride to Taree or
something .. and without a bike that's a no go.
I can get my lid elsewhere but with the 'you bought a bike here 10% off'
discount, that's $50 I'd be paying just to spite myself..
Best I could do at the time was only pay the deposit rather than the
full amount up front (my cheque book which was in my pocket).

slightly..they're not obliged to give you a loaner and havent got one
in the past means you now expect something they dont have to provid.
But its a luxury really. Most people dont get one.

I saw a damaged bike of your model on eBay. it was $2000 for the whole
bike. For $150 more you will have all the parts you need.

I always get one, but I make sure I ask for one at time of booking the
service work.

Well, if you bought a new bike from a dealer, then the clutch cable
broke, and they didn't have a replacement, I could see that a certain
level of embarrassment might have prompted them to lend you a bike.
Now, you have ordered parts (you don't say if the shop gets the job of
fitting) that you broke.
You have, obviously, survived without a bike now for some time, so the
shop doesn't have much sense of obligation to lend you a bike.

1929! For any service work on a vehicle, you have a lot less power of
negotiation after you give them your vehicle. I have people who want to
service our company cars. We negotiated that they will guarantee us a loan
vehicle, and I will pay them $10 for same.

Agreed.. Most shops would only have 1 or 2 loaner bikes which would
normally be given to people getting their bikes serviced on a first come
first served basis.
He should feel a bit gypped that he's paid them $500 for a $400 helmet,
though.
