I can think of quite a few bikes that I'd like to own but I won't bore
you with the list.

#1 on that list is Eric's GasGas EC250. Yeah, it's getting old and a
new one would probably be better but I want that one, as-is.

Screw the bike, I need a place to ride it! This area's nice for
putting around, but lacks any kind of serious challenges. 'cept mud.
Plenty of that.

Some really nice stuff about 80 miles south of here (Deposit, Hancock
NY, just watch out for Islamberg), but only a few events down that
way.

I hear the Hancock dual-sport is almost all off-road, I might hit that
this year.

Any modern enduro 2 stroke with at least 250cc will do. And a diesel
KLR.

Uh-oh...I have a list, too.

I have no problems whatsoever with boring my RMD brethren with a
list...

A red 200# GG EC300 with full-travel Ohlins front and rear and a 28"
seat height.

Husky TE610 with a big tank and 1 month of vacation time
KTM 690 Enduro in full Rallye trim (round-trip ticket to Africa a
bonus)
Service Honda CRF250X Junior (a Yamaha motor would make it more
attractive)
Joe Dowd's KTM 200 with FastFlexx bars included
10 Aprilia RXV450's (enough to provide 100hrs of riding in between
pistons)
Husky SMR450 with extra set of wheels for dirt
Ducati Terra Mostro

I am a simple woman with simple desires.

Eric *is* pretty good at setting up a bike, isn't he? I'm hoping that
he will lower the 250 a few inches someday when he finally gets around
to buying himself the 300 that he really wants.

Bikes I'd like to have:

CR500, steel frame, woodsified suspension, big tank, electric start, 160W
lighting coil.

WoW! As often as I stop for a rest. I could carry a solar panel on
my back and never run out of power. My only limits would be beer
supply and night time.

Saw two of those last weekend. Well, without the e-start and the
lighting... Riding some fairly mountiain-y terrain.

> Argh, no mention of how far it'll go on a charge!

I got some data regarding the current configuration from the guy who
built it. They've got it up to 54 MPH, and estimate that it'll go
10-15 minutes at full race speed. The bike weighs ~260ish pounds, so
it is comparable to a 250X.

They are using cutting-edge battery technology - these cells can
charge as fast as they discharge. The intent was for use on backyard
MX tracks, so you don't bother your neighbors. With that in mind,
10-15 minutes riding hard, then 10-15 break while your bike recharges
is not unreasonable.

Woods riding is obviously not practial, but hold on to your hat,
because battery technology is advancing at light-speed (I'm in the
battery biz). I predict that a similar system that yields several
hours of riding time is no more than a year or two off
(technologically speaking). The current high-capacity buzz is a new
cell technology that will allow a laptop computer to operate for 40
hours on a charge.

Unfortunately, being able to re-charge an electric vehicle as fast as
dumping a tank of gas will never happen. Even fast charge vehicles
have to get there bazillion amp supplies from someplace, and our
infrastructure can't support that - so all you folks that plan on
driving to Idaho in a day or two in your electric vehicles can forget
it for the foreseeable future. OTOH, if a reasonably priced off-road
electric bike existed that had a 100 mile range, there would already
be two in my garage. Especially if they were red.
