Post subject: desmo valve tune
Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>ducati (more info?)

Need all the info I can find to attempt to adjust the desmo valves on my '84
SD900. The workshop manual at ducati meccanica contains very little break
down information for a newbie such as myself. It's also becoming quite
expensive at the nearest ducati mechanic willing to service it. So I would
like to take it on myself.
Also any tips from the dyi folk, do's and don;t's, specialist tools etc.,.
much appreciate it.

Vifer,
I bought a 2V desmodromic maintenance DVD from <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.proitalia.com" target="_blank">www.proitalia.com</a> that was
very informative. It shows the valve adjustments on a 1993 Ducati. They also
have the shims and special tools needed to perform this adjustment. Just
click on the Books, videos, manuals tab on their home page.

valve adjustment question - I have read here on the list that an ST4S should have the values adjusted about once every 6,000 miles. Is this something that I can realistically do if I have some car experts who can show me how to adjust valves? Or is this something to not even try..

99 honda vtr 1000 vs 00 ducait 900ss? - Hello, at the risk of touching off a flame war. What would your opinion be as to which is the better buy: a 99 Honda VTR-1000 for $5000 or a 00 Ducati 900ss for $6000. Both have around 6K miles. I've ridden a VTR before but not a 900ss. From what..
