I've seen them ridden faster than Sportbikes. James Randolph Sr. had one
going at PIR a couple years back, and I surely couldn't catch him.

I read "Ghost Rider" last year. Neal Perle (some Canadian rock star I never
heard of) said that there were two seasons in Canada: winter, when the roads
are blocked by snow, and the construction season, when
the snow melts and all roads are blocked by by bulldozers...

Perle mostly stayed in 5-star hotels and resorts, though, he didn't look like a
two-wheeled tramp...

Has anybody recently crossed the border with a load of camping gear on the back
of the bike?

Friend of mine said that he tried to cross the Canadian border with tent and
sleeping bag strapped to his sissy bar in the 1970's. He appeared to have
everything he owned on that Honda...

Canadian border guard asks him where he's going and where he plans to stay
while in Canada?

Guy (that was his name, Guy) tells the guard that he plans to camp in the
woods. Guard turns him around and sends him back where he came from...

Guy was also turned around after he tried to bring another Honda into Canada.
Authorities were aware that he'd previously sold two bikes in Canada, without
paying duties, they said, "We know what you're up to..."

Another man I talked to said that he was headed for Alaska, and crossed into
Canada at Vancouver, where the Canadians wanted to charge him import duty on
his wife's sewing machine, his rifle, and the two unmounted spare tires he had
in his camper...

He protested that he was born in Canada, and was still a citizen, though a
resident of the USA. Canadians said that they didn't care, he could pay the
duty on the items, or leave them at the border...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Did you every hear John Candy's vacation story?

He drove his family down to New Orleans and, upon return, was
held up by an obnoxious border guard. The guard refused to let
Candy re-enter Canada as he suspected Candy was going to sell
his car, taking jobs from Canadians. The fact that the car was
registered in Canada - and that a look at the VIN would show that
the car was in fact built in Canada - was totally irrelevant. One
of the other guards told Candy that the guy was an asshole and
offered to distract him so that Candy could slip away.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The Dakar looks really ko0L too.........check that out maybe (?)
I am having a total blast on my new DR650. I had forgotten
how fun and easy to ride enduro type bikes are.....The DR totally
rails tight back roads with no effort. Lots of fun. I say go for the
big trailee........you wont regret it especially if you have a go-fast bike
too. The BMW is very expensive so I might shamelessly plug the DR or
a Honda XL650 for a test ride too.

BMW is going to sell a lot of those...very nice. I like it a lot better
than Japanese offerings for the class.

Well that sure explains why the canadian economy sucks so badly...those
folks dont know how to rock and roll... anal retentive issues apparently.

Yes, but it was a Teutonic ugly-stick. Quite a notch above your
run-of-the-mill ugly stick. Its a Panzeresque appeal I think.

The BMW enduro is very slow as well. I hope the DR 650 is faster the
the BMW. So Lemm what do you like better the Honda XL or the DR?

Neil Peart. Drummer and songwriter for the (Canadian) band Rush, and avid
motorcyclist. Some would say he's the Valentino Rossi of drums: unbelievably
talented, precise, and FAST.
