I read "Ghost Rider" last year. Neal Perle (some Canadian rock star I never
heard of) said that there were two seasons in Canada: winter, when the roads
are blocked by snow, and the construction season, when
the snow melts and all roads are blocked by by bulldozers...
Perle mostly stayed in 5-star hotels and resorts, though, he didn't look like a
two-wheeled tramp...
Has anybody recently crossed the border with a load of camping gear on the back
of the bike?
Friend of mine said that he tried to cross the Canadian border with tent and
sleeping bag strapped to his sissy bar in the 1970's. He appeared to have
everything he owned on that Honda...
Canadian border guard asks him where he's going and where he plans to stay
while in Canada?
Guy (that was his name, Guy) tells the guard that he plans to camp in the
woods. Guard turns him around and sends him back where he came from...
Guy was also turned around after he tried to bring another Honda into Canada.
Authorities were aware that he'd previously sold two bikes in Canada, without
paying duties, they said, "We know what you're up to..."
Another man I talked to said that he was headed for Alaska, and crossed into
Canada at Vancouver, where the Canadians wanted to charge him import duty on
his wife's sewing machine, his rifle, and the two unmounted spare tires he had
in his camper...
He protested that he was born in Canada, and was still a citizen, though a
resident of the USA. Canadians said that they didn't care, he could pay the
duty on the items, or leave them at the border...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
