This is the big weekend here in the States and no, I don't mean the
Daytona 500. I'm talking about the Indy AMA board meeting, where, if
the rumors are half-way accurate, a decision will be made on who, or
what will be the new owners of a major chunk of 2 wheeled racing in the
US of A. The players involved are numerous, as well as diverse, but to
me the 800lb gorilla is Edmunson. Sure, there's other folks who'd like
to run the show and would, more than likely, do so fairly well, but
with Grand AM already having Moto-ST up and running (pretty well too)
it's hard not to see him taking the whole ball of wax, especially so
given his associate's long reach and depth of pockets.
What it all means remains to be seen, but one things for absolute sure,
things are going to change.
Stay tuned... >> Stay informed about: Which way? |

Happening at the dealer show, wish I had a ticket for both. I'll
be at the dealer show though, ear to the ground. Had planned
to be off to Arkansas for some single track but did this instead:

trying to chop a hunk of ham off the bone for a sandwich. As
Mama Cass said, "stay away from ham sandwiches"

I've also heard some nasty rumors that the FBI, or the OIB are now
going over the books, which may explain why some were escorted off the
property a few months back... >> Stay informed about: Which way? |

AMA press release below.

AMA statement regarding former AMA Board Chairman Dal Smilie
Indianapolis -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) released
information
today concerning unsubstantiated expenses reimbursed to former AMA
Board Chairman
Dal Smilie. The information was presented by AMA President and CEO Rob
Dingman during
the annual corporate board members meeting held at the Omni Severin
Hotel in on
Saturday, February 16.
"In September, 2007, the AMA undertook an internal review of Board
members' travel
expenses," said Dingman. "During the review, a pattern emerged of
unsubstantiated
expense reimbursements to Mr. Smilie. In October, AMA counsel
contacted Mr. Smilie
regarding the nature of the unsubstantiated expense reimbursements.
Preceding the
AMA Board's November 17 meeting, Mr. Smilie offered his resignation
from the Board.
"At the November meeting, the AMA board accepted Mr. Smilie's
resignation and approved
AMA management's recommendation to undertake a third-party review
intended to document
the scope of the unsubstantiated expense reimbursements to Mr. Smilie.
The AMA engaged
the services of an outside firm to undertake a forensic review of Mr.
Smilie's expense
reimbursement requests. Information gathered to date was presented to
the AMA Board
in its meeting yesterday, Friday February 15.
"At Friday's meeting, the AMA Board voted to report the results of the
review to
appropriate law enforcement authorities. Meanwhile, the forensic
review is continuing,
and therefore we can make no further statements regarding the matter
at this time.
"This action demonstrates that the AMA Board of Directors and AMA
management hold
themselves accountable and act with integrity," Dingman said. "I want
to assure
our members that we consider the management of their money to be a
sacred trust.
If that trust is violated, then we owe it to each and every member to
seek justice
on their behalf and to undertake measures to ensure that their trust
is never violated
again."
Go fast Take chances.

Yeah, I kinda' figured they'd have to say something, the rumor had been
circulating pretty heavy for the last week, or so, though I wonder how
deep their gonna' dig? Too deep and it may, at the very least,"exclude"
the boy's at Hardcard, though they prolly only have a shot if no one
else makes a serious offer. In any event, we should know something
pretty soon, like in the next day, or so??? >> Stay informed about: Which way? |

Yow, you cut the wrong piece of ham. How long is the cast going to be on? I can
suggest that you make sure you go to PT as soon as you can after it comes off. The
longer you wait, the harder it becomes to regain the mobility.
By the way, I think Mama Cass actually said, "Ggg - ggg - gack..." (Sorry. I blame
Dennis Leary.)

Already have cast ver.2.0, formed plastic and I can move that finger a
little.
Saw the therapist already, twice a week from here on out.

Yea but she was *trying* to say.......

I anticipate that this is a fait accompli. People suspected that
Smilie had his fingers in the cookie jar, they've got a body, case
closed.
Go fast. Take chances.

I would think that when an outside CPA does a "forensic" inspection
that pretty much means everything gets looked at, but given the sticky
nature of non-profit outfits I'd imagine they'd want this all to go
down as just a rouge director thing and not draw it out. *BUT,* once
the Gubmit starts pokin' around, the game, as they say, is up and it's
their choice (supposedly) how deep it goes. Though I do get the feeling
Ole Smilie won't be when the smoke clears, I also wouldn't be surprised
if he wasn't the only one without a happy face. In any event and no
matter how sad a commentary on our times this may be (the whole deal
sucks for 2 wheeled folks in this country) you can't say Dingman
doesn't have a set! (Heh, either that, or Smilie ripped sooo much it
was impossible to cover) Anyway, I'm likin' the "Dinger" more all the
time.... >> Stay informed about: Which way? |
