Dani P posts the 2nd best time on day one in Sepang, then falls off,
busts his hand and flies back to Spain. He may be out for a month. I
guess Nicky Hayden will just have to turn more laps than anyone else to
make up. Oh. Right.

It's only the first day back after the break, but Stoner's up there near
the top and the other 3 Ducatis are right at the tail end.

A real shame for Dani and us fans too as he is one of the fastest guys
out there. He must be gutted, I bet a few explitives were muttered.

The Ducs had electrical problems all morning so track time was
limited, I expect the factory Duc's to pick up speed tomorrow and be
nearer the pointy end, espcially since Pedrosa wont be a factor now.

Rumor in Barcelona is that it is a very bad break involving 2 badly busted
metacarpals and 3 fingers that could compromise his ability to ride a bike
permanently. Bad hand injuries have put an end to other riders ability to
stay at the top of their game, so we shall see how Pedrosa can come back
from this injury. The Liliputian conspiracy theorists may have to find
another target for diminutive riders' unfair advantage going forward. Then
again, I have fully come back from a bad hand injury with over 40 with
nothing more to show for it than very occasional cramps and the promise of
eventual arthritis according to doctors. As luck has it, I now have a bad
cataract in my right eye that will require surgery. Heavens, middle age is a
b*tch even when you take care of yourself...

The broken finger/metacarpal doesn't always end up being the problem area after
the bones have healed. The fingers around it can have problems due to lack of
movement while in a cast/brace. Tendons atrophy and that can seriously affect your
grip. Plating and pinning can also be dangerous due to the risk of nerve damage, but
it'll get you out of a cast quicker.
