I'm definitely biased toward the Pacific NW. There are temperate rainforests
west of the Cascades and dry deserts east of them. I just drove back from
Montana, and believe me we have real winter east of the mountains, despite
what Troy claims.

West of the mountains, yes it rains a bit. Who cares? Don't buy property in
a flood plain, get a Gore-Tex jacket, and you're set. Water keeps the plants
green. Been to Colorado in the summer? It's only slightly less brown than
Utah.

We usually get one or two decent snowfalls on the western side every winter.
Snow piles up a foot or two (stop laughing, Minnesota) and the local
newsmakers freak out for a week. I drive a Subaru, so I don't pay much
attention.

We don't have much in the way of destructive weather like much of the rest
of the country. Just like the Bay Area for the most part. Less fog and fewer
earthquakes. You know... I've been in and around SF several times and I've
yet to see the famous fog. Just a myth?

We do have an active volcano nearby. It's a pleasant day ride from Seattle.
Most of my favorite riding is around Mt Rainier, Mt St Helens, and south
from there to the Columbia River. Also excellent riding along and through
the rest of the Cascades further north. Long day rides most of it, but some
of it, to do it justice, you should take the weekend or longer.

No kidding. The weird thing is that SLC seems positively green compard to
PHX or Las Vegas.

It almost makes me miss the East Coast.

No, not a myth. In fact where I live , which is about 3/4 of a miles from
the ocean, the fog sits on us between May and September, and only lets up
when it's time to rain all the way into March, unless we are in a drought
cycle , like you all were/are (excepting the recent floods of course).
Let me see if I have a pic somewhere.

Dude! You must have been there in December!
Actually we do get sun between September and December, then it rains like
hell till April, when we get another week or two of sun, then Fog till
September, and so on.
Summer days can be OK just a few miles away from the bay area though, fog
will hang out till 11 am or so then clear out till 430, then it rolls back
in, like a big old blanket.
Automatic A/C!

That was late June, early July, 2005. Beautiful weather the whole trip down
and back. I still want to see the fog first-hand.

Everytime I'm in the PacNW the weather is sunny and bright. I think
all you guys are sandbagging on your weather to keep people away.

Call me partial but I prefer Colorado. I chose to move here more than 30 years ago and have never regretted it once. We can ride all year round and you can't beat the mountains.
