we (my wife and i) have been musing over the various advantages of
relocating to either washington state or colorado.
we have visited and liked vashon/bainbridge/whidbey islands in washington,
as well as boulder and durango, steamboat in colorado.
i like colorado's 365 day fishing season (and all the trout), ski areas, and
other outdoor kind of stuff. washington has a lot going for it, too. i know
as far as riding goes neither will be quite as wonderful as northern,
california, with our mostly all year riding and endless twisty roads, but
i'm sure there are enough roads in washington and colorado, too.
if it was you who had to decide (we don't have to go anywhere of course, but
the the taxes in CA are high etc) and we could realize a nice windfall if we
traded our place into a more afforable real estate market.
any ideas, aside from the usual "my state is better than your state" stuff?
pardon the lack of caps but i just had carpal tunnel surgery.

Here is my experience, similiar but different. I've lived in Utah and the
Bay Area, roughly equivilant to Colorado and the NW, roughly, hehe.
There is a reason realestate is expensive in the NoCal to NW. I'll tell
why, in my opinion. You can't buy weather, Houston is hot and muggy, the
upper plains are damn cold in the winter. It doesn't matter the size of
your home.
The NW is different. It is all about the climate. SLC and CO have real
winter. The NW has chilly rain.
Me? I'd go back to NoCal in a minute, I love the rockies and the desert,
but I'd take the Pac West. >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

Sounds like you liked Washington better...you should move there I
think.

Washington is definitely more affordable, ask Saddle, he's got PhD
astrophysicist buddies who can't afford a single bedroom condo here in
Denver, Washington is definitely cheaper.

Yup.....Washington sounds like the state for you.

if you agree to take back all the Coloradoans that are clogging my commute
and raising the cost of living . we'll gladly remain here in Ca.
assuming you have that power of course...
like we say in the sfbayarea.
"welcome to California, now go home"
unfortunately I don't have the energy to tell that to the 25 million people
who have moved here since 1980, most of them from the Rockies, an of course,
nay. >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

WHAT!! I don't know a single Coloradoan who has ever said,
"Yup...decided I can't stand it any more...moving to California", not
one.
I'll agree to anything you say, if it involves you moving to someplace
other than Colorado. Did I mention I have nearly 2 feet of snow in the
front yard right now? Its about 10F outside as I type this? That I was
allowed to miss my first hour of work today, and they let us go home
nearly 3 hours early because of the treacherous and dangerous driving
conditions out? I'm expecting power outages at any moment....you
should stay where its warm I think....

I certainly wouldn't say such a thing. I believe in being
pro-active.....just don't show up at all....then I won't have to show
off my "Colorado Native" sticker.

Illegal's fleeing our employment crackdowns don't count. Which leaves
you with about 2 people. >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

You're welcome.
In all seriousness, Colorado is my kind of place, and I'm more
surprised by people who honestly didn't seem to like it here like Kurt
than I am by people wanting to come here.
Heck, I made a joke once to my mom in law the weekend I married my
wife to the effect that, "yeah, Ohio is great but boy if I ever get a
chance to work in Colorado...." and then of course 18 months later
here I was, and mom in law was pissed.
I like California as well, but not to live there. I've got kids to
think about...and beyond a decent secondary education system ( which
Colorado has as well ), some good riding roads, a decent mix of
weather and some fine scenery in general, its just got that many more
things I don't like stacked against it.
When you can live near work without a 7 figure sized 1200 square foot
home and I can conceal carry my 45 ACP without going through a
proctology exam and giving up my first born, I'll reconsider. >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

there's always a mob of transient types who go wherever they think the money

coolness and a big income... >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

it may be that I am just tired of writing checks to the county of SF....
but then again, I usually spend all my free time standing waist deep in some
river or hunting deer with my front forks on some back road... >> Stay informed about: colorado or washington? |

You know Troy, somehow I have this odd feeling you want him to go to
Washington!
On that note though...
Appears to be that I'll end up in Denver myself sometime in the summer!

Sold it and I will be buying a new one. It wasn't worth it to begin with
to ship the bike (resale value of $3,000 in the US VS 5,000 EUR in
Germany) and it definitely wasn't worth shipping the bike after the
engine failure.

Can't be that much worse than Florida hurricanes. =) Thanks on the tips
about the apartments though. That does sound very very good and I may
just wait until I get to Colorado then to buy a new bike. Apartments with
garages are not that easy to find in Florida.
I'm going to Florida first on January 14th until around summertime.
