I know that chest protectors are mainly for roost hitting your chest,
but I'm looking for torso protection from falls when riding in the
woods. I've tried on a few, and they don't cover the sides too well.

Overall, what brand would give the most protection on woods riding?

thanks,
Joe

Acerbis Zoom (same as Moose M-1 protector, except Zoom has kidney
protector plates on the side belts, and M-1 does not.)
or
Zoom 2 (the new model Zoom. It also has the extra protection plate on
the side straps.)
I used the Zoom for 6 years.
I hae been using the Zoom2 for three years now. I like it better.

If you are a larger fellow, I would suggest the Zoom2 Plus.

All of these are adjustable for waist length.(torso coverage length)

I have a Moose XCR from 2002 and it wraps around the sides fairly well. You
have the right idea to try them on and see what works.

Recent PTO (personal testing outlook) driving this, covering the sides
is less important IMO, than having good, suspended shoulder and chest
protection.
I've over-the-bar'd it extensively, to no real ffect until just this
once without the shoulder protection. It's very good to protect the
rotator cuff, there's a lot of attachment points up there, working
hard to keep it together.

My Moose protector, though, didn't stop a bar-end from getting through
the side and up underneath to pop a few ribs, and maybe the Acerbis
side-panels would have deflected that shot.

Thanks for the responses. Great info.

Jim, you mentioned the zoom 2. I've seen used Acerbis Zoom protectors
on Ebay. If an older one is in good shape, would that be OK or is it
better to go with the ZOOM 2? What is different/better with the zoom
2?

Joe,
The Zoom 2 is a bit sturdier construction, and vents more air.
(Zoom has a "layered" front panel)

The Plus is for those who are very long waisted or are over 220#. I
am long waisted.
