Archived from groups: rec>motorcycles>dirt (more info?)

Since last saturday we celebrate carnaval. I just hate it more than I
hate the guy who pointed a 38 gun to my head last tuesday and stole my
mom's car along with lots of personal stuff. Instead of going to the
carnaval party "galo da madrugada" (just google it, I hate is so much
I can't even look for anything) I called a few friends and went
riding.

Woke early that morning. I waited for ever for Gabriel and his already
clogged carburetor, he forgot to drain the carb bowl and bike was hard
to start. Robao and Eduardo were already at my home waiting... Robao
has a new Yamaha XTZ250, it is a nice dual sport bike that yamaha
built, it has fuel injection.

We were planning on riding to Maracaipe beach - hey, do you want to
buy a restaurante there? There is a swedish lady selling it, cheap,
I'd buy it if I have the money.

Of course, we would take the long way - through the jar trail and
zombie woods. The ride was uneventful, easy paced. I got to crash in
an awful way, I just tried to climb a steep hill in first gear and the
bike flipped over, hitting my thigh and my rebuilt knee. Thigh has a
bruise the size of an orange and knee was in pain for over an hour
after the crash.

After the zombie woods, we got to ride on easy, large unpaved roads. I
swapped bikes with Eduardo. He has a XR350 - oh, well, it is actually
a NX350 fitted for offroad. It has electric start. Bike felt way
underpowered in comparison with my 250. I guess his main jet is too
small. We got into a very busy dirt road, the cane sugar is being
planted and tractors and trucks are all over the place. I turned my
lights on, so I could be seen from far. Well, seems that the dumb
mechanic did not fix my bike properly, the battery discharged and I
got only electric start, bike had to be pushed to start.

We rode through the site where they are building an oil refinery.
Neat. Arrived at Maracaipe and went to Robson's sister house, she has
a little "pousada", something like a hostel, but not quite. Robson is
building two homes for rent there. Cheap rental for slightly less than
200USD/month. I am considering moving there. We visited some friends
who lives there and went to a bar to eat, we were starving. After lots
of chicken - cooked in it's own blood - we returned.

Then, suddenly, Robson's bike died. Uh-oh, electronic injection
bike... I proceeded to remove the side cover to check the electrics,
hoping for a blown fuse or something... I had rope, but we were far
from home, towing would not be fun. Then I spotted that little horn
thingy. The bike has an alarm. We traced the wires to it's electronic
brain and removed it. There was something loose inside the little box.
After removing the wiring from the alarm, bike fired up right away.

Almost at home, both Eduardo and Robson had flats. Eduardo rear and
Robson front. Weird! Eduardo and Gabriel went to lunch at someplace,
have some beers and such. I and Robson went to our homes. I was too
tired and besides, I had beer at home Smile

btw, police recovered my mom's car yesterday, almost undamaged, but
filthy as only a dirt bike can get. I spent all day in the police
station, with my mom, filling paperwork and telling them what
happened. Long day.

Nice report. I like the pics too. Looks like some good easy trail.

Glad to hear your mom got her car back in one piece. Can you post a
pic of her? Smile

did you notice that on the last picture we are under a mango tree?
also, the trees on the left are all mango trees. I forgot to add that
on the RR... We ate a truckload of them while fixing the yamaha.

Pernambuco is hot this time of the year. One can easily go through a 2
liter camel back in a 4 hour ride. It is so hot that is obscene, who
is not used to the heat can easily "black out" after only half hour
riding with all the gear, etc. It gets worse when on the woods,
because the trees block all the wind and the air is very humid. OTOH,
this is the fruit season. Mangoes, "jacas", "pitangas" aka surinam
cherry and cashews are plenty.
