I would like a recommendation of an online source for tires if anyone
has one.

TIA

I found the best price for Metezlers at:

RonAyersMotorsports.com

He has other brands and it's only $8 for shipping and no tax if you
don't live in North Carolina.

I have bought plenty of tires from http://www.accwhse.com They had the
best prices until this last order ($8 difference in price and $$
difference on shipping ($8 verses $23). They had what I wanted, and easy
to deal with.

you can save a few $$$'s online.
however,
I did that once and I had a hell of a time getting the local
stealer to mount it.
they had a policy saying that the tire had to be bought
through them.
after signing a "hold harmless waver", they finally
installed the tire but said they wouldn't do it next time.

I'll spare you the "my dealer is worse than your dealer" stories. We
mount our own tires now. Initial investment of less than $200 for a
balancer and all of us use it. Considering there are 10 of us buying 2
tires each year and the cost of mounting is $50 per tire.... It took
close to an hour to mount the first tube tire but we have it down to
about 30 minutes now.

I buy my Coker Wide Whites for my Heritage directly from Coker, and I get a
*way* better price than my local Indy quoted me. I pay about half of what my
Indy charges when I buy direct.

I bought my last Dunlop D-402 BW from J&P for $100, with a "no shipping
charge special" promotion. I went with a Black Wall because it was the rear
tire and you can't see a white wall anyway. When I replace my front, I'll go
with a BW on it too. I like the look of a BW over the WW on a Dresser.

I mount and balance my own tires but next time I'll have a Indy MC tire
dealer in San Jose do it for me. He charges 20 bucks to M&B a customer's
tire. It's *well* worth 20 bucks to me, to have someone else mount the tire
on the mag. Last time I did it I gouged up the mag pretty bad and had to do
some pretty drastic "clean-up" work to it.

I balance my tires using the OEM axle C-clamped onto two jackstands. Spin
the tire, mark the *light* spot (the top of the tire, at 12 o'clock), spin
it counter to the first time and mark it, repeat until I get enough marks to
show two "groups" of marks. Add weight directly between the two groups of
marks and re-spin it.

I've always balanced my own tires that way and I have better success than
when I have had a professional "spin balance" job done on a high dollar spin
balancer machine.

It's the old, "If ya want somethin' done right, do it yerself" deal.

Wow, imagine that.... you sit there and call the guy a thief and then you
wonder why you had a hell of a time getting him to mount a tire for you?

What really baffles me is, if you think the guy is such a crook, why did you
take your work to him in the first place???

My problem was that the local dealer wouldn't work on my '90 FLSTC as it was
"too old". He wouldn't even sell/mount tires for me!

I thank him now as I have done far more to my bike myself than I ever would have
if I had to pay somebody.

I call him a stealer (like most folks do) not a thief.

I am not a wrench and the next closest HD stealer is 80
miles away.

Funny, but I always considered someone who *steals* to be a thief.

well then,
most HD dealers I have seen are stealers.

I oredered a Metz880 front tire for my bike from Motorcyclemart.com on
the 15th of March. I have still not received the tire muchless a
tracking number. I have called numerous times and most of the time I
get a message stating that the answering machine is full. I did get
through once or twice and they told me they were waiting on the tire
to come in from New York. That was about 2 weeks ago. I have since
been constantly trying to contact them via phone and e-mail. I got
through to the answering machine once and left a message to have them
call me with a status. No call back to date and no response to any of
the e-mails I have sent. The price is right but if it takes 6 months
to get the tire, I'd rather pay the extra money.

My suggestion, don't go with these guys. I can understand if they have
supplier issues but not getting back in touch with the customers to
tell them that is just not acceptable.
