I buy my Coker Wide Whites for my Heritage directly from Coker, and I get a
*way* better price than my local Indy quoted me. I pay about half of what my
Indy charges when I buy direct.
I bought my last Dunlop D-402 BW from J&P for $100, with a "no shipping
charge special" promotion. I went with a Black Wall because it was the rear
tire and you can't see a white wall anyway. When I replace my front, I'll go
with a BW on it too. I like the look of a BW over the WW on a Dresser.
I mount and balance my own tires but next time I'll have a Indy MC tire
dealer in San Jose do it for me. He charges 20 bucks to M&B a customer's
tire. It's *well* worth 20 bucks to me, to have someone else mount the tire
on the mag. Last time I did it I gouged up the mag pretty bad and had to do
some pretty drastic "clean-up" work to it.
I balance my tires using the OEM axle C-clamped onto two jackstands. Spin
the tire, mark the *light* spot (the top of the tire, at 12 o'clock), spin
it counter to the first time and mark it, repeat until I get enough marks to
show two "groups" of marks. Add weight directly between the two groups of
marks and re-spin it.
I've always balanced my own tires that way and I have better success than
when I have had a professional "spin balance" job done on a high dollar spin
balancer machine.
It's the old, "If ya want somethin' done right, do it yerself" deal.
