It did. A bit reluctantly, but then, it hadn't moved since July.

I'd forgotten quite how rubbish the brakes were, too.

I had to use the Met. Line last night. Since I've stopped working in
London, this is now a fairly rare occurrence. TFFT, is all I can say.

And obviously it's all Corfield's fault, the cunt. Or maybe it's that
Fitzgerald bloke.

I walk (at least) 50-60 minutes per day - that's got to be healthy,
right?

In the "town" area where I live within Greater London, it'd be a rare
day that I didn't walk to where I needed to be.

When I first started at the Pru - I used to go Cannon St to Chancery
Lane, via Monument and Bank.

Well, I did it twice, before catching on.

heh.

I walk from Liverpool St. or Moorgate along the length of London Wall
- there's remarkably little traffic (and sometimes I go along the
Highwalks where the air's even cleaner) and then cut through Gresham
St. to St.Pauls - there's really not much traffic - much less than
there is where I live, actually.

Occupational hazard when you live in Harrow.

I prefer using the Chiltern Line into Marylebone, but I'd just missed a
train and CBA to wait nearly half an hour for the next one.

Cool.

Yes, for short hops (as it were) getting out and walking is far quicker
and more pleasant (weather permittin) than changing tube trains.

I think it's Bill Bryson, in one of his books, that mentions about
tourists wanting to get from Regents Park to Great Portland Street and
going on the tube via Baker Street.

Quite. Public transport sucks.

it's not all in one chunk - my commute each way is: 10 minutes walk ->
30 minutes on the train -> 15 minutes walk. But as you say, I'm
walking as fast as I can do comfortably.

since I started doing it every day, I have noticed that the back aches
I used to be susceptible to are much rarer.

Oh, I do. Mined ewe, the Blackbird has been very well behaved for the
last eight years.

If you're interested, there's a new GL1500 maintenance blockbuster in
the pipeline at the moment.

Swing-arms, clutches, electricals, brakes - it's got the lot.

Perhaps I could go for a LOTR-esque Trilogy:

Fettleship of the 'bird; the Two Hondas; and Return of the Wing.

I could cast Brad Pitt as me. You could be played by Andy Serkis.

Walking is massively underated for lots of things, not least that it's
a very good form of exercise - puts your heart in a very good zone.

I live in the centre (ish) of a small provincial town, and always walk
pretty much everywhere within the town itself. The whole place is
accessible within 30 mins.
