Archived from groups: alt>motorcycle>sportbike (more info?)

I think the green beast may be about to meet it's maker.

I parked my bike on the street yesterday and went to work. 8 hours later I
returned to find it parked facing the other way and smashed to shit. After
swearing for awhile I noticed a note sticking out of the triple clamp. Just
my luck I had parked in front of the local Tim Hortons (donut shop) and a
cop sitting inside stuffing his face saw the whole thing ! He said a truck
was pulling into the spot behind me and some how managed to slam into the
bike.

So I had her towed home and the damage looks pretty serious. I put the bike
on the rear stand and let it run in gear. The rear wheel was floppin'
around like a spent dick. Also the exhaust can took a chunk out of the
swingarm. the handle bar hit the ground so hard it somehow managed to crack
the steering stop and smash the gauges.

I'm pretty sure it will be written off but I will know for sure in a few
days. I was looking for an excuse to buy a new bike ... now I have it !

So what do you think ... ZX9R ? GSXR 1000 ? I hope a can get a good deal on
a 9R now that the 10 R is out. Any thoughts ?

Dayum...and after you rebuilt that bad boy! That sucks. I know all about
the steering stop after busting the one on the Daytona.

Anyhow look for a Daytona they can do anything the 9R can, with more
character. Just my opinion!

The 955i is on my list as well. I don't really want to buy new again cuz
it's just not worth it and they are really hard to find used around here.
But if I run into one I will seriously consider it.

Are you pursuing hit and run against the truck driver? Be sure to do so with
the cop as a witness you can't lose and this guy needs to pay for what did
to your bike. As to replacement, I don't think there is a bad bike for sale
any more. Sit a few and one will speak to you.

Out of curiosity, who's your friend with the truck?

You can't miss on any of the late model sportibikes. However, you have
confirmed my long standing practice of NEVER PARKING ON PARKING LOTS OR THE
STREET. I always take the sidewalk, of some place where I can see and cars
are not allowed.

Get a ZX9R, you should be able to get a good deal on a 2003 or even a
2002 leftover. I just picked up a 2002 (which is the same as 2003
except for colors) for $8700 OTD. Good luck and sorry to hear about
you "accident".

Nothing. It's 2,000 dollars more, it wouldn't make a difference to anyone
short of a professional on the street (cool factor excluded) and the ZX-9 is
still a great bike. Plus it's a heck of a lot more comfortable.

That's all.

What is the legality of parking on the sidewalk? That's all I have to do,
walk out of the store to be met by a parking ticket.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Face it: that bike has more lives than the proverbial cat. I remember
when you got in the most heinous accident I've heard of in awhile and
essentially walked away, c. 2001. How ANY part of that bike survived,
I dunno, but somehow it did.

Then you rebuilt that ZX, against all odds. Sounded like quite the
project. I don't think I'd have had the patience.

So if it's finally dead, well, I'd remove the major (surviving)
sub-assemblies and part it out, gradually. Or who knows: a racer may
want the whole enchilada and pay a few bucks.

Thinking ZX-9 might be for you, given your enjoyment of Team Green.
They really do seem quite nice, aging gracefully these days and still
impressive. As I recall the later generation hit the U.S. in '98: not
sure about Canada. Regardless, good examples abound for reasonable
money.

Hope you can settle with the trucker, though that doesn't sound like
it's going to happen. I'd sooner chew off my own leg than park in the
street, though sometimes I guess that's the way it has to be.

P.S.: if you work for Shaw Group, you have my sincerest condolences
(email suffix).
