Just picked up an '02 YZ250F for the youngster this evening. After
much searching around and even <shudder> looking at and considering a
bunch of two strokes, I found this one on eBay. Didn't bid on it for
some reason, but e-mailed the seller right after the auction ended
when the non-buyers remorse kicked in.
Turns out the person that won the auction backed out leaving it open
for me. It was about 20 miles away - a good bit closer than some of
the ones I was looking at from Erie, PA to St. Petersburg, FL.
The seller had put an '03 exhaust cam in it and starting it is a piece
of cake for my son (12 y.o.)
I rode it a very short bit yesterday and will have to agree with
everyone who's said this bike is a blast to ride.
Can't wait to, you know, show him how to ride it.

It's a little too tall, but he can get the balls of his feet on the
ground. Bars to seat to pegs is almost perfect. 85s and 100s are too
small and he keeps getting taller for some unknown reason. Not once,
when I've checked his height, has he gotten shorter.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: New bike for the kid |

Casing out on a double every now and then will take

Congrats on the new scooter. His height won't be a problem if he can touch.
One of the people that rides with us is about 5'4" and she is riding a
YZF450 now.
If my memory is correct, your in the Raleigh area.... Got any tips for
tracks to ride in the Greensboro area? Winter is on its way and we're
looking at doing some traveling to ride. Gotta find warmer weather to ride.

Cool, I wanted my 12 yr. old son to get a 250f but he wanted the YZ 125.
He's one of those 2-smoke brats. I dropped the triple trees about 1/8" and
dropped the sub-frame 1/2", set the sag and the height was way better. He
had a hard time stopping without falling over on uneven ground with the
stock set-up.

He rode it for the first time today. It's going to take a couple of
rides to get used to it, but he'll be fine on it in a few outings. My
initial impression: fast, fun bike.

Try <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.ncdirtrider.com." target="_blank">http://www.ncdirtrider.com.</a> It's fairly complete. Click on the
Tracks link and the Tracks Ratings link. Actually, Smel is a lot
closer to Greensboro than I am. I think John Arnett is pretty
familiar with that area as well.

I'm going to see how he adjusts to it setup the way it is for a few
rides. He's coming off a TTR-125L. He has no problem starting it
with no assistance, so I think he'll be allright until he drops it on
an off camber. The guy I bought it from was about his same weight, so
I haven't touched the suspension yet.
How's your kid like his so far? How long has he had it?
