I saw a couple of kwads out there. Furriners with no safety
equipment, backwards baseball caps, etc. The ones that load up
several pre-teens with arms too short to actually turn the thing. The
same ones that t-boned my kid because they couldn't reach the fucking
brakes. You know the ones. I tend to steer clear of places that
attract that element any more. It tends to get easy if you frequent
the ones that charge a couple bucks or more for admission.
If you've been off roading for a while, you probably remember the
place between Poole Rd. and 64 that shut down a couple years ago for
the Knightdale Bypass construction. My kid actually shed a couple
tears when that happened.
My brother works for a grading/site development company and lets me
know when they have places that are rideable. It was pretty fun
riding the site across from the new WalMart out near Brier Creek right
in the middle of a bunch of folks that were ABSOLUTELY sure we weren't
supposed to be there.
I still say the best place for you to take your bike to get used to it
will be Buckleberry Lakes between Smithfield and Goldsboro. Lots of
wide open areas and a few trails. You'll get bored with it pretty
quickly though.
If you don't mind driving to Henderson to ride, this place is great
for just about everyone:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.ncmotorsportspark.com" target="_blank">http://www.ncmotorsportspark.com</a> - trails - novice to expert, tracks
for bikes and ATVs. The intermediate track is done and it's a good,
safe track - tabletops, downhill singles, etc, but no doubles. The
expert/pro track should be done in a few weeks. Concessions on
weekends, camping, etc.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
