Just got my trailer put together that I ordered from Harbor Freight.
Found a good place to put it in the garage where it won't take up much
room: http://jeepadventures.dyndns.org/temp/trailer.jpg
The motorcycle rail kit for it should be here next week. When it's
all put together it should look like this:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=5003
For anyone who's considered buying one of these trailers, it seems
pretty sturdy. I think I'll be happy with it. It came with complete
wiring for side running-lights and tail-lights. I have no complaints
about it.

Find a spare wheel and tire for. Not necessary to tell you why.

Nononono. Get the bike first, then worry about how to haul it around.

I checked that place out off Ligon Mill Road last weekend. Looked
like it would be great for crawling around in a Jeep, but a little
cramped for my lazy ass on a bike. From the top of the first hill
looking back to the west, someone told me that it ended not too far
over the next ridge. Is that right?

Yes, there's a railroad track that breaks it up. There are several
side-trails, though. Most of them more suited for an ATV than for a
Jeep, although I was able to squeeze into about all of them with my
baja. That's not the largest system of trails I know of, but it's the
most convenient to my house. They are *tearing up* the trails out in
RTP right now to make way for 540. I'm afraid that when they're done
there won't be anything left out there. There used to be a great
system of trails right next-door to where I work on Davis Drive, but
they have bulldozed that all down now. They weren't power-line
trails, just miles and miles of trails back in the woods. I'm sad to
see that go. Sad

I saw a couple of kwads out there. Furriners with no safety
equipment, backwards baseball caps, etc. The ones that load up
several pre-teens with arms too short to actually turn the thing. The
same ones that t-boned my kid because they couldn't reach the fucking
brakes. You know the ones. I tend to steer clear of places that
attract that element any more. It tends to get easy if you frequent
the ones that charge a couple bucks or more for admission.

If you've been off roading for a while, you probably remember the
place between Poole Rd. and 64 that shut down a couple years ago for
the Knightdale Bypass construction. My kid actually shed a couple
tears when that happened.

My brother works for a grading/site development company and lets me
know when they have places that are rideable. It was pretty fun
riding the site across from the new WalMart out near Brier Creek right
in the middle of a bunch of folks that were ABSOLUTELY sure we weren't
supposed to be there.

I still say the best place for you to take your bike to get used to it
will be Buckleberry Lakes between Smithfield and Goldsboro. Lots of
wide open areas and a few trails. You'll get bored with it pretty
quickly though.

If you don't mind driving to Henderson to ride, this place is great
for just about everyone:
http://www.ncmotorsportspark.com - trails - novice to expert, tracks
for bikes and ATVs. The intermediate track is done and it's a good,
safe track - tabletops, downhill singles, etc, but no doubles. The
expert/pro track should be done in a few weeks. Concessions on
weekends, camping, etc.

Yes, they were the best! Took my baja out there a lot.

I think *I* might have shed a couple of tears when they closed those
trails down. Wink

I bookmarked that site. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Damn. Now I'm getting all misty. I've got a bunch of photos of that
place around somewhere. That's where my kid basically learned to
ride. We were out there most weekends for a couple/few years and
during the week whenever I was *cough*, you know, sick. ~10 miles
from the house. We could be out there on a whim in under an hour
including loading/unloading - the whole bit.
