Maybe the spam (which no one can really do much about) can at least be
drowned out.
Below is the original control message that was used in the creation of
alt.motorcycles.abate. I created the group on July 9th 1999.

Here is the first message I sent out to the group concerning the
charter and such:

I realized that I never posted the original charter and such for this
newsgroup after it was created so here it is (posted at end of
message). This newsgroup is not meant for "for sale" ads or
solicitation for pictures that are non-ABATE related. This group was
created as a non-binary group so please don't post pictures here,
please just post a link to a picture if you want others to see it. The
"A" in ABATE usually stands for "American" (although I have seen some
different variations) hence the "Language: English" listed in the
charter. And no... I'm not anti-anyone, if I can be shown that there
are ABATE Chapters in any non-english speaking countries I can always
change it if there's a good reason.
Having said all that, I know this isn't a moderated newsgroup so I'm
sure there are those that will simply ignore everything in this
message. It will be pointed out to me that I don't own the newsgroup
and that's true. I don't own the newsgroup, I don't own usenet, I'm
not a censor, there's nothing I can do about it blah blah blah. I can
only send this out and hope others follow the intent of the group. I
will send this out to the newsgroup every now and then however when
needed and then ignore the flames.
