Post subject: Need advice on TTR 250 Problem
Archived from groups: rec>motorcycles>dirt (more info?)

I have a 1997 TTR250 that I purchased a year ago. It ran fine but the last
time I took it out it began to give me the following problem. It starts and
idles just fine, but as soon as I open up the throttle more that 1/3 or 1/2 of
the way, the bike sputters and dies on me. Every time I get into the upper
RPM's, whether I am riding it or not. I have also noticed some black suit
around the back of my FMF Megamax II Spark arrestor where I had none before. I
have tried it with and without the QuiteCore insert, and I have taken out the
carb and looked it over. I am no mechanic but it seems pretty clean to me. I
noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I
need to know what step to take next. Thanks for any help!

Frank

My top five list:

Tight or burned valves
Choke is stuck partially closed.
Gas cap vent is clogged
Water or dirt in the bottom of the float bowl
