Same in Ontario.
Only thing is, you'll see signs in the wrong colours. I've seen
"TURNING TRAFFIC MUST YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS" in yellow. (That's not
what the law says, of course--anything but a directional green arrow
and turning traffic must yield.)
When they did tear-down and rebuild of a little-used tail end of the
freeway near me, I got on the mailing list for the meetings. Several
times it came up that the city Roads & Traffic department had put up
either an illegal sign or a statement of law in warning colours.
(For example, there's a by-law that says the speed limit on this
particular freeway is always 90 km/h; they'd put the 60 km/h limit at
the top of the ramp. Well, that's still part of the freeway--you
can't legally put a 60 km/h limit sign there. They changed it to a
RAMP 60 sign in yellow.)
So you're still best to know the rules of the road, because you can't
rely on the the sign departments. I'd say 95% of the signage is OK,
but you sure don't want to disobey a yellow sign that's a statement of
law.
(And for people who wonder, you still have to yield to pedestrians
even if there isn't a sign saying so--just like (in Toronto) you can't
block an intersection even if there isn't a grid painted on it. And
you can't run a red light even if there's no camera....)

But it is for a good reason. Not dying on the job is cool.
