Shirley, set 'em up for everybody on what's left of my credit card and
keep 'em coming.

So, I had the dealer install the Zumo 550 bracket on the clutch
bracket and wire it to the ignition switch. Since he was putting a
bunch of other stuff I bought on the new scoot anyway, he threw it in.
Now, I decided to go ahead and order the XM antenna for it. I know a
few of you NetScum have this setup, and I'm wondering where did you
mount the antenna?

Buddy of mine mounted his on the tour pack, but I've got the luggage
rack there, and it would hide the antenna. It needs to have a clear
view of the sky at all times.

Have another while you're contemplating...

I have the three small bags that hang on the Road King windshield. I
set the antenna puck in the little slot in the middle. It rubs a bit
on the windshield but it works well there. For a while I put it on
the fuel tank next to the fuel gauge. That was OK, but sometimes my
body would block the signal.
I thinking on making a little bracket that attaches to the windshield
hardware, but I haven't consumed enough beer yet to finalize the
design. These things take time you know.

Sounds like a plan!

They do, indeed. I ordered a "flange bracket" on Amazon at the same
time I ordered the XM-30 antenna. Seemed like the right thing to do.
It was twelve bucks, so I figured why not. Comes with screws that look
like they want you to drill holes somewhere, which is something I
kinda shudder at. But maybe the bracket will attach to one of the
existing windshield nuts and bolts, and there will be no drilling.

I figure I already have two XM subscriptions, one for each car, so
another $6.95 a month to get it on the bike won't kill me. I ride the
bike about 1/3 of the time vs. the car, so it will definitely be worth
it.

Did you pay the $3.95 for the XM Traffic plan that overlays traffic
info on the Zumo? I'm wondering about whether that would be even worth
it, or if it would just be another thing I'm paying for and not using.
It's available in 80 cities, St. Louis being one of them. Of course,
there's already an XM traffic station dedicated to St. Louis, so it's
kinda redundant. And costs money, too.

Shirley, a round for BP and me, please, on my ever-shrinking credit
card...

E-mail on the way with a picture of my antenna install.....no drilling/brackets
required.

My radio mount on the bike is the same as in my truck and in the house.....so I
just move the receiver to where ever I want to listen to it. I've tried with no
luck to convince my wife she "needs" XM, she's a frikkin Luddite, doesn't "get"
HDTV.....

Not me - butt - I saw one that mounted right on the back of the Zumo.
Imagine an "L" shaped bracket with the long leg attached by some means to
the back of the Zumo (or it's mount - not sure which) and the puck looking
antenna double stick taped to the short leg of the "L". Make sense?

I have a Sirius recever in my truck and I need to investigate alternate
antenna locations. Something seems to be interfering!

I wish I had done that way back when. My '04 Pontiac came with it
built-in, so I bought 5 years in advance. Then, wife got her '08
Impala, and it's built-in there, too, so we signed her up. The Zumo's
XM is a third subscription. It would have been cheaper to just buy one
head and three antennas, and just keep moving the head around.

Make that a round for everybody. Like Doug says, work sucks! Even
playing around with the bike in the garage beats working, anyday. 'Til
the weather gets a bit better for riding, that is.

Your antenna isn't mounted to the roof on the outside? That's where it
is on both our cars.

It does, indeed. Maybe I'll get to retire next year, and then I can
play more.

The XM on my Ultra was my first one......the mount was already installed, I went
and bought the receiver......it's car kit went in my truck. My youngest daughter
bought me a home kit that Christmas......

Now I stream XM over my PC, and DirecTV changed it's music channels to XM....I
can damn near listen to XM anywhere....

He's sure right about that...that's why, one fine day in June of 2005 I decided
I was done (well I did a couple part time gigs since, but FINALLY got it outa my
system).........

And that's the way to do it, so you only have one subscription, and
still have XM where you want it. On the other hand, I have four
DirecTV receivers, and each one past the first one costs $4.99 per
month. XM subscriptions past the first one are only 2 bux more than
that, so I guess it's kinda fair.

Same here. In fact, if you have a phone with web browsing, you can
even stream it over your phone. They've got a cut-down version of the
PC url that works great:

The trend where I work is, you retire, and two weeks later you're back
working half-time. In a year I'll be 59-1/2 and past the rule of 85,
so I will have the luxury of going into work every day and saying to
myself, "If I wanted to quit this job today, I could." With no
penalty.

Yes it is. I mounted it near the front of the roof, behind the windshield,
in the center. The instructions said (for a truck) to mount it in the
center at the rear but I don't have a good way to route the cable there so I
put it up front. Up front I could run the cable under the windshield gasket
nice and tidy. Maybe I should have followed directions - maybe not - we'll
see. I am definitely going to experiment with locations this time though
before I permanently install anything.

I am just going to have to quit working - too long to wait to retire!

I've got 4 of 'em too.......1st one's HD....so that one runs me $9.99 a month
more, and starting in a month or so another $4.99 (for some stuff that got
added)......

My cell phone is a phone......it can do all that stuff, but I always heard that
just 'cause ya can, doesn't mean ya have to. Just got my new every 2 "free"
phone from Verizon a couple months ago. This time I picked one that I could add
a micro-SD chip to and load up with MP3's (too cheap to buy an mp3 player <sfsf>).

Thing got me in trouble right away.....was boppin through the grocery store
(with the Mrs.) enjoying my tunes, when I realized she was giving me "the
look"....'cause she realized she'd been talking to me and I couldn't hear a word
cause I was listening to music...<sfsf>

Our rule was 80......when I was at 78 I bought 4 years of military time, which
kicked me to 82+.....time to go <sfsf>.

Setup on my pickup has been like that since the beginning....works like a champ.

My Pontiac came with it just like you did it - in the front, near the
windshield. Wife's Impala came with it installed in the center rear.
Only difference is, she can listen to XM while her car is in the
garage, but I can't, because my antenna is way too far into the garage
to get a signal.

I have a SKYFi (tm). On my Ultra the cradle is mounted on the tank dash
below the toggle switches, and the antennae is on the chrome rack on the
tour pack. With the SKYFi I'm able to use it in my truck, in my car, on the
bike, and in the boombox on the deck, all for one subscription.

Thanks for the coffee.

My antenna came with a little powder coated metal plate like you
described. I just can figure out a good place to put it.

I only have the XM on the Garmin unit. I listen to FM around town and
take the Garmin on road trips.

Yes, I did. The weather has not been helpful, but the traffic has
been. It pops up on the main navigation screen and estimated how much
time it is adding to your trip. It also has a fairly detailed view of
the problem. When they start stacking up (and they do) it time to
look for alternative routes.
