Does anyone have any experience with buying parts and accessories from
On-Line stores in the USA?
I'm considering getting a pair of aftermarkets exhaust cans for our '04 R1
and the current strength of the AUD makes buying from the USA look very
attractive, but I'm wary about parting with quite a few hundred dollars on
the credit card in such a way.
So, has anyone bought such a largish item from an online store in the US?
Was the experience trouble free? Is it a generally reliable way to purchase?
Any particular on-line stores anyone can recommend?
Cheers,

Check ebay. I grabbed a new pair of Akrapovic pipes for lesser than AUD
$800 including shipping (got it within a week) awhile back (when oz
dollars was hovering above 80ish). You might even get lucky and get
cheap 2nd hand two brother carbon pipes.
As for other parts, they vary in quality - that's always the danger
when you're buying online. I'm currently waiting for 2nds Zero Gravity
screens I bouoght off ebay from the offiical Zero Gravity outlet.
Shipping cost was actually more than the selling price - but they're
having a good deal atm where you get two screens. >> Stay informed about: Wanting Feedback - Buying Accessories Online |

each shop is different on the net as anywhere else.
Biggest item I've bought was nearly a grand for my Aerostich, painless
transaction except for customs being annoying.
Do note that if you don't have an *invoice* (not a customs
declaration, an invoice) on the outside of the box, if it looks like
it might be more than A$1000 then customs will hold it until you
supply a copy of the invoice (meaning you have to get the supplier to
pony up a copy) to prove it cost you less than A$1000 including
freight. If it's more than that, then you pay duty and GST.
I've had no trouble with any place I've bought from, but then I buy
Guzzibits and the market for those is small enough and the community
talkative enough that any shop that caused problems would soon find
they had no customers.

Last time I dealt directly with a bike parts manufacturer in the USA
they stuck an invoice for $US100 on the outside of the box to keep the
customs people happy, and then posted me the real invoice separately in
the mail. Now that's what I call service

I've purchased R1 bits from www.tobefast.com (McCoy's motorsports), painless
and quick, had the parts in 3 days, ordered GYTR slip-ons and a heap of
other stuff, shipped on the Friday their time and in my hands on Monday.
