Post subject: Vulcan 800A in Canada?
Archived from groups: can>rec>motorcycles (more info?)

Hi all. I know this group doesn't get a lot of traffic, but I'll ask my Q
anyway.

I am in the market for a new bike, and wonder why we can't get the Kawasaki
Vulcan 800A here in Canada. If anyone is familiar with this bike, it is the
leaner, more chopper-esque cousin to the Vulcan classic, which *is*
available here. I have nothing against the Vulcan classic, I just prefer
chopper/softail styling over classic styling. Our options are pretty limited
here in Canada though, in under 1000cc, only the Yamaha V-star custom 650
has the styling I like. Unfortunately, that bike is a bit too small, as I am
stepping up from a Virago XV535. I don't want to go over 1000cc for
insurance cost reasons.

Has anyone ever imported from the USA? I live close to the NY border and
have thought about importing.

James

Hi James,

Post this question on the VROC news server, I'm sure someone will have the
answer there.

The server is "vroc.org" and post it on the newsgroup "local.vroc.techtalk"

If you're not against buying a used bike, I was thinking of selling my
1996 800A this spring. I moved on to a BMW R1150RT last year, but kept
the Vulcan with the thought that my wife might ride it. Sadly, she
finds it too much at this point in her riding career.

The bike is equipped with windshield, backrest, saddlebags, and, because
I'm really lazy about that sort of thing, a ScottOiler. Let me know if
you're interested.

What do you intend to do with the 535? That would be a perfect bike for my
wife to start on...
