Just upgraded the XT's for KTM 950 SM's, and got no idea what the best
tyres for these 950 SM's - anyone got any advice please? Planning on
taking them down to Europe in May on the honeymoon (3 weeks riding)
and various roads while out there, San Bernadino Pass, little tracks &
all in between (not exactly planning on hanging about either) but in
the meantime commuting to & from Brizzle. TIA.

I would ask my mate with a 950SM, but a) he is in Germany, and b) I
think he still has the original tyres on it despite a trip to Spain
and back for a trail riding holiday last November.

The NHCA 1300 class champion has wheels with race wets for his. Not
sure what he uses on the road.

Put a full wet (race) tyre on the front and a slick on the rear.

Better still, phone a KTM dealer and ask them for suggestions.

the whole "I'm now converted to 'backing it in'" thing would be much
more convincing if you'd actually managed to do it at any point
yesterday Smile

Very nice. You must bring them over here for me to HAGM.

If you want a tyre that has a good trade off between durability and grip
then the fairly new Conti Road Attacks are popular with the Adventure bike
crowd. Road use only. I'm going to put a set on for my trip to Austria in
June. They come in KTM sizes and in Sport & Race compounds too. Fitment
guide at http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/contibike/index.php - select the 990
Super Duke for the right sizes.

If you can't find a tyre fitter in Chepstow then I know a couple of decent
places not too far away. One in Coleford, the other in Cardiff. Both do a
ride in/ride out service.

As, of course, does ProTyre in Gloucester and Bristol.

I'm not converted. I'll be sticking to the tried and trusted hang my
knee out method of cornering at speed.
