Metzeler Z6s or Pirelli Diablo Stradas[1] if all you want is
sports-touring rubber. They seem to be the favoured tyres with Michelin
Pilot Road2 2CTs a close second. If you want something a bit stickier
then the normal Diablos work very well too. 021s are sports-touring
tyres too, but not as well liked by the SV mob and don't last long
before squaring off.
[1] same compound and carcass, different tread pattern.

On closer inspection, the front looks fine, so given a choice between 90
quid on a new D220ST rear, or double that for a pair of something else,
another Dunlop it is.
But not til next weekend, so if I'm FOTting tomorrow it'll be on the
stinkwheel again. Ho-hum.

I wouldn't put another 220 on it, I'd throw both away and stick
something decent on. Tere's a good pair of D207s in my garage if you
want them, 50 quid the pair - right sizes too

Not at all, but I like to try different tyres and not get stuck in a
rut. My old SV ended up with Diablo Stradas because they were
recommended to me by my ex, she got good mileage and managed to do a
couple of good trackdays on them with no problems.
The current SV has the Metzeler Z6 version of the Strada, same compound
and carcass but different tread pattern. I hear good things about the
Pilot Road2 2CTs from other SV riders so might get another set when
these Z6s wear out. Some tyres just don't suit certain bikes, like
D207s just don't suit anything made in the last 50 years from anywhere
in the world, but don't tell Ogden that cos I'm trying to offload
Blaney's old CBR tyres onto him.

Normal 207s in 120/60-17 and 160/60-17. The rear one has got a plug in
it but loads of tread on both.

I agree. I had loads of different tyres on the 9R, and they were all
fine. If they got slippy-slidey, it was usually because of stuff in or
on the road; drain covers, overbanding & the like. I usually went for
the "black, round & cheap-ish" options when I needed to buy tyres as
I'm not sure I'd ever notice the difference anyway.

Got a pair of Diablo Corsa Rosso tyres fitted today, latest offering from
Pirelli to replace Corsa/Corsa III's. I've been using Diablo Corsa's for the
last 3 years and really like them.
Corsa III's fitted would have been £210, the new Rosso's ftted were £219 but
there is a Pirelli promotion on these which pays cashback of £30 (Within
30days). Prices are for 190 section rear, 120 front, 17". Cashback offer is
on pairs of Rosso tyres only and ends 30th April.
Tyre prices don't seem to have went up much in the last 4-5 years, I
mentioned this to the tyre fitter and he said that's about to change because
the prices from all tyre manufacturers are about to rise by at least 8% next
month.
