Hey all...
I was just curious. Does anyone sell a good small trailer or some
other sort of contraption that will allow me to carry a future VFR
behind my S2000? I also have a 96 civic that I could use as well.
Unfortunately I don't have a truck and this is the time in my life
when I will be moving every year or so. Am I out of luck or is there
something that can help me?
Thanks for your input!

Why don't you just get a Honda Pacific Coast and put the S2000 in the bags?

Harbor Freight, and I'm sure a dozen other places, sells a small ~1000
pound capacity trailer that should do fine as long as there's a class
1 hitch out there for the S2000 (I think there is).

Or a Tourmaster Tribag. I'm convinced that the thing will hold a small
third world country if expanded.

YEEOUCH!!! My wallet hurts just looking at those! I'd much rather save
$1300 and buy a trailer kit from Harbor Freight, but I have a very
complete shop, including a welder, and can easily build the kit much
stronger than it comes.

I was looking at the 990lb one with the 12 inch wheels for dual use with
bike, and windsurfing equipment. Has anyone gotten one of these? I'd like to
know the real dimensions of the trailer, because the deck is supposed to be
4x8, but I need 10ft in length. I was thinking that I could build out the
windsurfing box 1 ft on each side to make up for length. Are they somewhat
sturdy?
I've tried looking up the manufacturer, US General, but can't seem to find
their page for more info.

Well, the kendon are very nice. Denise has one and I saw it a little
while ago, and I must admit it's pretty cool.
Hi have myself a trailer I bought from there:
http://www.scandipacific.com/
So, for 1 sportbike, you can have decent trailer for $255. Add a ramp
and shipping and you're set.
I'm quite happy with it.

If you're only going to need it once a year or so, just rent a small
trailer from U-Haul or similar.

I can double on that... yowza! I found a hitch on Hitch-web and found
a class 1 hitch for my car. I think I will look around for a cheap
economy frame trailer or look in the classifieds. Thanks for your
input though.

US General is a Harbor Freight brand. The trailers are actually made
by Long Chih. Home Depot sometimes stocks these folding trailers as well. >> Stay informed about: Sportbike Tow for Car |

I haven't bought mine yet, but when I was making the decision whether
to build it myself or buy the kit I asked around. The general
consensus was that it works great if you bolt it together then
(assuming you can't do it yourself) take it somewhere and have all the
joints welded, including the 4 hinges that let it fold in half. I'm
planning on building a roughly triangular box that sits on the tongue
so I can lock up stuff like tiedowns, tools, etc. so I'm sure you
could figure out a way to put a 10' box on it. Also, the 8" wheels
haven't caused anyone any problems, so I'll probably cheap out and go
that way. The smaller wheels also reduce the deck height a couple of
inches.
If I decide to build my own frame I'm going to order an offset axle
and build the frame a little strange so I can get the deck as low as
humanly possible. Easier to load that way.

Welding the joints doesn't sound like it would be too hard.. I've been
thinking of investing in a small welding kit just for things like this. I do
like the ability of the thing to tilt down so that I don't have to use a
ramp to get a bike on it.
I'd steer away from the smaller wheels though. It depends on how far/fast
you're going, but a windsurfing bud has them on his trailer, and on each
trip to windfest in Hatteras, NC, he's blown out a tire.. nearly losing the
trailer. He's limiting himself to 60mph just because of that. I've been able
to do 85-90 the entire way without any issues with my 12" wheels. I'd hate
to see you loose a bike because the trailer bounced around during a blowout.

Once you see how that works on the HF kit you'll figure out a new way
to do it Basically you have to get under the trailer, pull 2 bolts
that lock the tongue to the frame, then it pivots down and the bed
tilts back. When you roll the bike on the bed will slam back down.
Been there, done that

I've never had a problem with small wheels on trailers, but then I
don't usually drive over 70 with anything loaded. I've pulled a 24'
tandem axle gooseneck full of about 12 tons of boring machine behind a
1 ton Dodge at 85, but I was in a hurry and it was a company truck
