Plastic's up.
Anyone know if this a common problem on the TC's? The rear jug is
weeping a bit of oil (not flowing, but showing) on the rear right
side, above the exhaust. Got about 18,000 on her ('02 RK Fuelie).

I'd be weeping too if I had to haul your ugly ass around.
If her jug is weeping, she could be pregnant...
If her rear is weeping, it could be sphincteritis, depends.

If it's above the exaust, it's the rocker cover gasket, not the head
gasket.

Depends will only work on the sphincteritis, if it's the jug use utter
cream.

Sounds more like a rocker box is leaking. Now, you just have
to figure out if it's the lower rocker box to head gasket, or the one
between the two halves of the top rocker box (I've actually seen a few
of the later, but none of the former on the TC88s).
If it's just the top cover, it's a real simple job, and one
whole gasket (that angle to the top rocker box on the TC88s was
actually built for ease of removal on the bike).

Grrr... Well, this one looks like the former (lower box to head
gasket).
I noticed it earlier this spring and then again a few days back.
Doesn't appear to be getting any worse, so I may just ride it out
through the season and deal with it when the weather turns.

Still a fairly easy job. I'd say it's even easier on the TCs
than the Evos.

Hmm.. doin' some head scratching over this one now.
Changed the oil about 1,000 miles ago. Took 4 quarts and measured it
hot as per the man-u-al. Checked out. Just checked the level again a
few weeks back. Looked to be about 3/4 low, so I added some dino to
the tank and off I go. Few days later I start to see the weeping from
the topside as described. On a whim (mainly 'cuz my 91 Evo used to
weep a bit too when overfull) I checked the oil level. Sheeitt -
looks like it's wayy high (?). Swore I checked it hot, level, etc...
I mean shit, this is rudimentary stuff here. Ok, WTF, anyway it was
fer sure over, so I drained about 3/4 quart out, checked the level
(looks fine now) and off to Jimbo's I go.
Get to Jimbo's and check the situation out. Level's ok, and the area
that was weeping is now bone dry. Guess I'll pay closer attention to
my levels. Seems like the RK likes just a tad over 4.0 quarts and no
more.

Hmmm...This is interesting. Lemme guess, you have the SE high
flow air cleaner on there, right (as well you should)?
If so, pull it apart, and put some PST on the bolts that go
into the heads, and around the washers! That air cleaner
unfortunately doesn't have any o-rings between those and the
backplate, like the stock one does. Bet you that's where it was
"leaking" from. Also, your air cleaner is probably full of oil.
Instructions just calls for blue loctite. People who have
seen many, many of these weep put PST on bolts. Real anal people put
a bit of blue loctite on the end, and some PST closer to where the
breather tube/nipples are.
I'll give you one guess as to which type of person I am.
Ahem.
Phil...the "If that ain't a no-brainer..." Asshole(tm)...
