Did anybody happen to see the National Geographic Channel episode last night
about StrikingViking and how he was kidnapped by Colombian rebels?

He's a very unusual character. I haven't decided what do believe about him,
except that he seems to think *differently* from the usual biker I have
talked to.

Interesting photo, at first I thought that might be Troy hold'n the piece!
But its no 45 of course.

The Colombian rebels are apparently being supplied with US made M9s (Rock
Island Berettas).

Thats foreign aid for you.

An interesting thought, it's possible that Glen knows his guns and that's why
National Geographic used a Beretta in the re-enactment of his capture.

I don't know much about guns, I saw the barrel sticking out of the slide and
thought it must be a Russian or eastern European design.

But, with your identification, I looked up the Beretta website and found this
nice spare parts drawing:

http://www.shopberetta.com/spareparts/Beretta_92FS_spare_parts_chart.htm

Beretta describes the reloading method as "short barrel recoil system".

Apparently the barrel itself recoils a short distance, forcing the slide back,
ejecting the cartridge, and then the recoil spring pushes the slide forward,
loading another round.

I was wondering just how far the barrel has to move to accomplish this
process.
